The Descendents of Richard Gallagher
of Castlefin, County Donegal, Ireland

72. Edward6 Gallagher (Edward5, John4, Andrew3, John2, Richard1) He died in 1959. He served in the trenches in World War I and worked with E.N.S.A. during World War II. He sold Sutton Seeds.

He married Martha Josephine (Patricia) Raybold. She died on 26 October 1983 at Reading, England. Patricia was an opera singer and sang with E.N.S.A. entertainment during World War II. She shared a flat (apartment), near Eaton School, with her sister Daisy after Edward died. The students from Eaton School passed their flat on the way to school. Inside the flat, at the front window, there were builtup box seats. This where the tailors, of previous years, used to sit as they did their sewing.[72]

Maire Keenan and Catherine Keenan lived with Edward Gallagher and his wife in 1940 while they were attending Rosses College in Dublin. Maire Keenan remembered him as "... a gentle man, I loved his joy of life and admired his `to hell with it.' "[73]

139.iiEdward Philip Gallagher born 12 June 1920. He "had tuberculosis as a baby and has been in the care of the Berkshire Health Authority for most of his life."[74]

73. Andrew6 Gallagher (Edward5, John4, Andrew3, John2, Richard1) He was born in 1875 and died 16 April 1957 in Strabane, N. Ireland. His home was called Hazelwood. Andrew was a Lord Lieutenant. He received the Order of the British Empire from the Queen.[75]

He had a linen and ladies undergarment factory that was located at Main Street and Bridge Street, Strabane, Co. Tyrone. "Finola Lingerie - Silk and Art Silk Underwear made from the best materials by expert machine and hand workers. Made in Ireland by J. A. Gallagher Ltd., Lifford (Irish Free State) and Strabane (Northern Ireland)." The company was founded as "Flannigan & Co, Ltd." in 1905. In 1913, the name was changed to A. Gallagher Limited." The Hibernian Bank Ltd. took over all the assets of the company in November 1958.[76]

He was married twice. He had one child (Edward) by his first wife Mary Gallagher and eight children by his second wife May O'Hora. His first wife, Mary, died in childbirth with the child in April 1904 and is buried in the Gallagher plot in Strabane, Ireland. Both of his wives came from Ballina.[77]

74. Annie6 Gallagher (Edward5, John4, Andrew3, John2, Richard1) She died in 1961. She married Luke McGuinness, a doctor. In 1990, Eithne McGuinness wrote "My mother won the Ladies Ulster [Bridge] Championship in town hall [Strabane] to very little applause owing to her religion [Roman Catholic]." Annie Gallagher McGuinness, her husband Luke McGuinness, and her children Annie Josephine (Eithne) McGuinness McCorkell and Edward McGuinness are buried in the Leigue Cemetery, Ballina, Co. Sligo, Irleand. [80]

75. Teresa (Teasie)6 Gallagher (Edward5, John4, Andrew3, John2, Richard1) She died at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She married George Gladstone. They "lived on Vancouver Island and in Vancouver. Was very active at the Kerrisdale Community Centre especially with the Bridge Players.[81]

160.iiiMarjory Gladstone married Frank Trainor. She persued a career as a singer. She lived in Europe, then in New York City for a number of years. She later resided in Richmond, British Columbia.[82]

84. Rebecca Catherine6 (Kate) Kelly (Bridget5, John4, Andrew3, John2, Richard1) She left home on her marriage in 1923. She married Thomas (Tom) Devine. Rebecca died on 21 October 1969 at age 77 (born about 1892). Thomas died 11 May 1942 at age 52 (born about 1890). Thomas, Rebecca, Nellie, Bridget, Michael and Charlie Devine are buried at the Castlefinn cemetery adjacent to the Gallagher family lot.[84]

85. Richard6 Kelly (Bridget5, John4, Andrew3 Gallagher, John2, Richard1) After his father's death he married Maggie McGowan. Richard died in 1958 at age 70 (born about 1886). Maggie died in 1973 at age 76 (born about 1897). She was originally from Strabane, Co. Tyrone. [85]

96. William6 Gallagher (William5, John4, Andrew3, John2, Richard1) He was born in 1902. He died 6 July 1975, aged 72, and is buried in the Gallagher plot at Castlefinn, Co. Donegal, Ireland. He was known as Willie and lived in his family's home, Grianan, at Castlefinn.[91]

Willie inherited the farm and continued to work it for several years. He never married but lived on in the house with my mother. After her death in 1947, a cousin came to look after him. His sister Cherry, then a widow, came to stay with him until his death in 1975. He sold the farm before he died. Both the farm and the house are now gone out of the family after 100 years.[92]

99. Katherine6 (Katty) Gallagher (William5, John4, Andrew3, John2, Richard1) She was born in December 1911. She was named after Catherine Gallagher Keenan. She is a graduate of University College, Dublin, Ireland. She married John James (Jack) Caffrey, a graduate in science and civil engineering, in 1933.[93]
