My Sword...

Okay, just to set the record straight, we ARE talking about a real piece of metal here. While it's not a focal point of my life, my blade is certainly something I call attention to now and then. It's not the fanciest thing in the world, but it's quite capable for what I wish it to do...

And there she is. Her name is Lavea. A Samoan name, meaning, "The Hurt." Not that she's the one causing hurt to others, but that she is. Don't ask me why I named her that. I just did. Shortly after I aquired her, a friend of mine took her from me and had Runework done on her. One one side, her name. On the other, mine. Or the name I use most often online, anyway. Echthroix.

These are the sides. The left most is hard to see, but it's the only pic I have. That's my name. The one on the right is hers. Name, that is.

So a little information about the sword? Ok. She was born, compliments of the good folks at Skycastle Blades, and purchased at the Kansas City Renessance Festival. She's made of 1040 Carbon Spring Steel and will go through a car door with no hesitation at all. (Drool) Only tried it once, but lemmi tell you, it works. She's currently un-buffed, though when she's well oiled, she shines like nothing else. I'm planning on submitting her to a 'Smith here soon to have some work done. She's very combat-ready right now, with firm construction, a cord-wrapped handle for good grip, a ball pommel, and a sturdy crosspiece. There's no edge on her as of yet...kids running around and all. She does, however, have a point on her, and thusly, she resides inside of a hand-tooled leather sheath, constructed by one J. Michael Reed. Technically, you could call her a longsword, so we do. (Grin) It's the cross between a rapier's swiftness and a broadsword's power. Having watched her cleave several things in half, including watermellons and chunks of wood, I can assure you, there is power there.

Of course, there's a different kind of power there as well. When she was taken away to have Runework done on her, she was also taken other places. She is currently a blessed weapon, having received the benediction of four religions. Catholociscm,(sp?) Wiccan, Myrddinist and Norse. It's nice to have a holy weapon laying around the house from time to time. (Heh).

Time to go back home!
