The Adventures of Talia and Tanya:
The Logic of Romance
by Jeffrey C. Branch
Chapter Two
Rating: PG
The boys took Tanya and Talia to 'Flashdance', a nightclub near the main campus of the University of Tokyo that was frequented by college students. Talia looked around her at the surroundings and was suitably impressed with the decor. But she was even more impressed with the large dance floor and the throng of people moving wildly to the beat of Techo music blaring away on the building's sound system while colored lights flashed from the ceiling.
"Does this fill the prescription?" Seiya asked Talia.
The Vulcan girl nodded. "It does indeed. Could we dance?"
"No prob! I'd love to!" said a smiling Seiya. It was becoming harder for him to take his eyes off Talia. The more he was with her, the more he found himself liking her. She captivated him in ways he never knew existed. "Taiki! Why don't you order for us? I'll have a cheeseburger."
"And I will have a salad," said Talia.
"You've got it. Have fun."
Taking Talia's hand, Seiya led her out onto the dance floor.
"Say, Ti. Do those two remind you of another couple?" said Yaten, watching Seiya and Talia dancing and clearly enjoying themselves.
"Yeah! Us!" said Tanya with a giggle as she slipped her hand into Yaten's. "I was telling Tal before the show that I hoped she'd find a boyfriend. Who knew it'd happen this fast?"
Taiki was confused. "Boyfriend? Seiya? You've got to be kidding! What about his crush on Serena?"
"A crush is one thing, Taiki. This is completely different," said a thoughtful Tanya. "Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but I think this is serious. Those two are really falling for each other. Hard and fast."
"I don't know about that. Yaten, what do you think?" asked Taiki.
"Well, I'm smart enough not to argue with Ti's instincts," Yaten replied. "She may be right. Heaven knows it'd do Sey a world of good to hook up with a nice girl, considering he's had nothing but trouble with them."
"And while Tal would never admit it, she's been lonely. Being with a guy like Seiya would be good for her too," said Tanya. She then thought: I hope I'm right about them. Tal and Seiya would make a great couple! They don't know it, but those two really need each other!
Seiya was all smiles as he danced with Talia. He was awed at the way she moved, the way she looked, everything about her. There was an electricity about Talia, a magnetism that was impossible for Seiya to resist. And he didn't want to try.
God! This girl is doing something to me! And I love it, he thought happily.
After the music stopped, the couple smiled coyly at each other as they walked back to their table. Instinctively, Seiya reached for Talia's hand and squeezed it. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so happy and at ease with a girl. Talia made him feel indescribably good inside. It was a feeling he didn't want to lose.
"Did you enjoy yourself, Tal?" Seiya asked her.
Talia nodded, her eyes fixed on Seiya. She had come to enjoy looking at him. There was a great strength paired with a roguish quality in Seiya's youthful face, yet there was also deep tenderness in his large blue eyes. As Seiya held her hand, Talia could feel his vibrant, energetic spirit. It was wondrous to her. "Yes. I did. I never knew social interaction could be so enjoyable."
Seiya winked. "Being with the right person makes it all the more fun."
Talia smiled fondly at Seiya. Her heart was once again racing. The feelings that she had developed for the dark haired young man were making her lightheaded. It was all incomprehensible to her, yet pleasant nonetheless. "If that is the case, Seiya, then I am glad to be with you."
"Look at 'em, guys," said a grinning Tanya, watching the couple approach their table. "They haven't known each other for an hour, and they're already holding hands and making goo-goo eyes at each other. You still think that isn't love at first sight, Taiki?"
The brown haired young man shrugged. "I bow to your wisdom when it comes to affairs of the heart, Ms. Cambridge. You were right after all."
"Damn straight."
"Hey, guys! What are you talking about?" asked Seiya as he and Talia returned to their table. Tanya could see from Talia's smile that she was glowing. It pleased her no end to see the normally dour Vulcan girl look so happy.
"Oh, nothing much." Tanya then rose from the table and took Talia by the arm. "Pardon us, boys. Tal and I need to powder our noses."
Talia looked puzzled. "We do?"
"We do. C'mon."
Once inside the women's restroom, Tanya grinned at the Vulcan girl. "I've never seen you like this before, Tal. Your smile lit up the room. Seiya really got to you, didn't he?"
"Got to me? I do not understand."
"He made your heart beat faster, made you stomach do flip-flops, made you feel flighty and lightheaded. 'Fess up, you like Seiya, don't you?"
Talia was silent for several moments. Then, with a smile, she nodded. "Yes, I do. I cannot explain these feelings, Tanya. I have never felt such....bliss before. This is all so baffling to me."
Tanya, grinning, sat Talia down on a couch and put an arm around her friend's shoulders. "You don't have to understand it, Tal. Just accept it. And enjoy it. I know exactly what you're going through."
"You do?"
"Yup. You've met a boy that you like, and who likes you back," Tanya explained. "It's only natural to get a little giddy."
Talia, having brought herself under a semblance of control attempted to put up her normal stony facade. "Perhaps for humans, but not for me. It is illogical to feel this way. I am a Vulcan...."
"Oh, puh-leeze! Don't give me that crap! You're not just a Vulcan, you're a woman. And you're experiencing your very first ever crush," Tanya countered. "Look, you can't let logic alone dictate the way you live your life. Sometimes, you have to let your heart, and not your mind lead the way."
Talia's brows furrowed as she contemplated what she had been told. "Hmm. It would appear that I have a great deal yet to learn about what it means to be human. Will you teach me?"
"Of course I will, doofus. Like I said on the day we first met, I'll always be here for you," said Tanya. She then squeezed Talia's shoulder. "Tal, you've got to stop shortchanging yourself. You're every bit as human as I am. The way you've acted with Seiya is proof of that. Just give in to your emotions and let them take you where they will. I promise you'll enjoy the trip."
Talia pondered what her friend told her and shrugged. "If you say so. I will take your word for it."
"So, pal, when's the wedding?" asked a smirking Yaten.
"What are you babbling about?" Seiya asked between bites of his cheeseburger.
"You and Talia. We saw you two on the dance floor. And how goofy you acted back at Budokan," said Taiki. "You like the girl, don't you?"
Seiya blushed slightly and nodded. "It's that obvious, huh?"
"You betcha. A blind man could see how you've fallen for Talia," said Yaten. "I never thought I'd see you get so serious over a girl."
"Me neither. I can't explain it, but something about Tal hit me like the proverbial ton of bricks," said Seiya after a sip of his soda. "Never mind the obvious fact that she's drop dead gorgeous, Tal's got an appeal that makes my knees weak. I wasn't kidding when I call her exotic. She's all that, and more."
"And what about Serena?" Yaten asked.
"I don't know. She's still on my mind, a lot, but I'll never be close to her while Darien's around. Maybe I should get over my crush. Serena's a girl, but Tal.....she's a woman."
Taiki and Yaten glanced at each other, then at Seiya.
For over an hour, the fivesome chatted merrily about music, and about each other. During that time, Seiya and Talia rarely, if ever took their eyes off one another, and that made a blush color Talia's cheeks. At around ten thirty, Tanya looked at her watch.
"I hate to break things up, guys, but it's getting close to my bedtime," she said. "Tal and I have school in the morning."
"So do we," said Taiki, and the group rose as one. "I had a lot of fun tonight."
"I'll second that," said Seiya. He then focused on Talia. He was nervous and shifted his weight from one foot to the other. "Uh, Tal? Would it be okay if I took you home?"
Talia smiled demurely at Seiya and nodded. "Yes. I would like that very much, Seiya."
Seiya returned Talia's smile, pleased, and relieved that she accepted his offer. "Cool. Let's go. 'Bye, Ti. See ya later, guys."
"Catch you tomorrow, Tal," said Tanya.
"Good night," Talia replied.
Twenty minutes later, Talia and Seiya stood outside the front door of the Hattori residence, the home where Talia had been staying since her arrival in Japan. For several minutes, the couple said nothing as they stared into each other's eyes.
"I had a great time tonight, Tal," said Seiya. "And meeting you made that all possible."
Talia nodded, pleased that she appealed to Seiya. Before tonight, the Vulcan girl never cared what others thought of her. But now, it was different. "Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed my company. I certainly enjoyed yours."
Seiya grinned nervously. "That's cool. Er, I was wondering, if you're not busy Saturday night, would you, uh, like to go out with me?"
Talia her eyes widened from surprise, gasped. "Do you mean, a date?"
"Yeah. I'm sorry for jumping the gun, but, I like you, Tal. And I wanna know you better. But, if you don't want to be with me, I'll understand."
There was a brief silence that for the couple seemed to last days. As Seiya wondered if he was about to be rejected, Talia, perplexed by the attention he gave her was at a momentary loss to decide on a course of action. As a rule, the Vulcan girl was not used to impulsiveness, and the idea of a date with a boy she just met certainly was that.
Yet, she couldn't deny her the feelings that she developed for the handsome, black haired young man. She then thought back to what Tanya told her at the nightclub: 'Just give in to your emotions and let them take you where they will'. That helped Talia make up her mind.
"I accept your invitation, Seiya," she said. "I would most enjoy being with you on Saturday."
Seiya grinned, more from relief than anything else. His luck with women was poor at best, miserable at worst. Becoming attracted to Serena Tsukino, future ruler of Crystal Tokyo, then getting on the bad side of Sailor Uranus who was distrustful of his behavior with Serena to the point of hatred. To meet a girl who was genuinely interested in him like Talia was a breath of fresh air. "Terrific! I know a great restaurant in Shinjiku that serves the best Italian food in town. Do you like Italian?"
Talia nodded, remembering having enjoyed vegetable lasagna that Lita baked for her once. "I do. It sounds....wonderful."
"Great! I'll pick you up Saturday at eight p.m.," said Seiya. He then clasped Talia's hands in hers. "I'm really glad you're going out with me, Tal. See you then. Good night."
"I will be looking forward to it. Good night, Seiya."
After entering the house, Talia took off her shoes and walked into the living room where Mitsuyo Hattori, a willowy, gray haired woman sat on the couch reading a book, her legs tucked under her. The Vulcan girl bowed low to the older woman who raised her head when she saw Talia.
"Komban-wa, Hattori-san. I hope I did not disturb you," said Talia in perfect Japanese. Before leaving the States eight months ago, Talia took a crash course in Japanese so her hosts wouldn't be at a disadvantage when it came to what language to use.
Mitsuyo smiled as she sat down her book. She had quickly grown to like the extremely polite though taciturn American like a daughter. "Not at all, Talia. Did you enjoy yourself this evening?"
"Hai. I did. It was very pleasant," replied Talia, thinking about Seiya. "In fact, it was a marvelous evening. One I will not soon forget. I will leave you to your book. Good night, Hattori-san."
"Good night, Talia. Sleep well."
In her room, Talia, having changed into her pajamas lay in bed staring at the ceiling as she dwelled on the events of the evening, and her meeting Seiya. Just thinking about the roguish, dark haired young man with the twinkling blue eyes made her heart pound in her chest. Talia had encountered many boys while living in Des Moines, Iowa where she was born, then San Francisco where her parents moved to, and finally, Tokyo. To her, boys had been of no interest to her. But none of them, not even Darien Shields affected her the way Seiya did. Talia found those feelings intoxicating.
"This feeling I have in my heart. The way it beats so strongly when I think of Seiya. Could it be....love?" whispered Talia. With a small smile on her lips, the Vulcan girl closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
Several miles away in a rundown neighborhood, the girl with dirty blond hair walked the streets alone, feeling the power of the Three Lights' music throbbing within her like a living thing. She smiled from how wondrous the power felt to her.
For as long as she could remember, music always affected her like that, filling her body with an energy that made her feel strong and powerful. But the feeling she had never lasted very long, no more than an hour, maybe two, then it would go away, and she'd be left feeling small, insignificant, pitifully weak. The girl hated being weak, so she would listen to music almost all the time so she could retain the power.
Deep down inside, the girl believed that she was supposed to carry out a mission with her power, but the knowledge was locked away, beyond her reach. The girl believed she was part of something greater than herself, yet she couldn't remember what it was. For the last year, she had dreams every night of a past life where she fought forces that kept her people down, oppressed them, denied them the right to live, to fight....to conquer.
The girl shook her head to banish thoughts of her dark dreams which often frightened her. All she wanted to do now was go home and listen to music, any music that would return the power to her. But, most of all, she longed to listen to the Lights.
"Hey, look! Check out the chick!" came a voice from behind the girl. "I think she's lost!"
"Yeah! I think so too!" came a second voice.
The girl craned her head around to see a group of four mean looking toughs in weatherbeaten leather jackets and faded blue jeans. The girl frowned. The neighborhood her home was in was filled with street gangs, most of whom lived for causing trouble to anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path. Just as she had done.
The leader of the toughs, wearing a baseball cap, clearly more muscular than the others sauntered up to the girl who felt the first sliver of fear creep down her spine. "What'cha doin' here, girlie?"
"Just going home," the girl replied meekly. "I....I don't want any trouble."
"Oh, really? Well, that's for me to decide," the thug growled. With a speed the belied his size, he grabbed the girl by her arm. He then leered hungrily at her. "And I've just decided that we wanna have some fun. Got a problem with that?"
The girl shivered, openly terrified. "Please, don't hurt me! Let me go!"
"Sure I will. After we play around with you."
Laughing out loud, the thug dragged the helpless girl down the street, his companions close behind. The girl squirmed, desperately trying to escape, but the big thug was too strong for her. Pulling her into an alley, the girl, fearing she was about to be raped did the only thing that came to mind. She screamed, hoping a passerby might hear her and scare the hoods into running off. The end result was anything but what she expected.
Waves of immensely powerful sonic energy erupted from the girl's throat, hitting the thugs like a runaway 18-wheeler, slamming them against the wall with bone breaking force while breaking windows for a block around. The girl, though free, continued screaming at the hoods who cried out from agony. Something deep inside the girl was furious at having been threatened by the thugs and, in turn, it enjoyed their anguish and suffering. Only when the thugs stopped moving did the girl stop screaming.
The girl slowly stood up walked over to where the goons lay. Their skeletons destroyed by the sonic blast, the thugs were nothing more than lifeless bags of flesh that poured blood from every orifice. The girl was confused, not understanding what she had done. She then became horrified, having never seen a dead body before. When the girl heard voices nearby, she spun on her heel and fled from the alley as fast as she could run.
The girl, terrified, didn't stop running until she reached the front door of her house three blocks away. Panting and wheezing, the girl quietly entered her house which was dark, what with her mother in bed. The girl, shaking, sat down on the couch and dwelled on what happened in the alley. The girl felt heartsick, never having taken a life before. Even worse was how she did it. That, she couldn't fathom.
"I screamed, and they died. But how?" she whispered. Suddenly, an incredible wave of weakness washed over her body. The vibrant, beautiful energy she felt from the Lights' music was gone. "No, not gone, spent. Spent when I screamed. What's happened to me? What on Earth am I?"
Yawning, the girl, too tired to climb the stairs to her bedroom curled up on the couch. The fear ate away at her insides, yet, the exhaustion took over and she fell fast asleep. The girl would get no answers to her questions tonight. Just her dark, frightening dreams.
"So, what did you and Seiya do on the way home last night?" Tanya asked eagerly as she and Talia, dressed in their Crossroads High uniforms walked to school.
"Nothing in particular," Talia replied simply.
The pretty black girl smirked. "Oh, ho! I see! In other words: none of my business, eh?"
"Not at all, Tanya. Seiya and I simply talked about each other. He is a most engaging and witty person." In her usual unemotional monotone, Talia added, "He then asked if I would accompany him on a date Saturday evening."
Hearing that, Tanya's eyes widened like saucers and her mouth dropped open. "Oh, God. Omigod! Seiya asked you out?"
Talia nodded. "He did."
"And you said 'yes', I hope?"
"I did."
Tanya suddenly let out a loud squeal of delight that turned heads all around her as she threw her arms around Talia's neck and hugged her friend tight. "That's great! Oh, Tal! I'm so happy for you!"
"I am glad that you are. But must you be so demonstrative in public?" said Talia.
Tanya giggled as she broke the embrace, her cheeks red. "Oops! Sorry about that. I get carried away sometimes. So, where's Seiya taking you?"
"An Italian restaurant in Shinjiku."
"Ooooh! Someplace nice and intimate I'll bet!"
"I would not know. However, I do have something of a problem regarding this upcoming function. I have never been on a date before."
Tanya was shocked. "Never been on a date? You're kidding!"
"No, I am not. I do not know what to wear or how to act. Will you help me, Tanya?"
"Sure! Be glad to! In fact, why don't you come over to my place tonight? I can give you lots of pointers! Heck, we can turn that into a good old fashioned pajama party! You and I are long overdue to have one!"
The Vulcan girl cocked an eyebrow from puzzlement. "Pajama party? What is that?"
"It's where girls get together in a friend's bedroom, put on their pj's, then spend the night talking and listening to music," Tanya explained. "I'm surprised Serena and the girls haven't told you about it. Pajama parties are a whole lot of fun! Interested?"
Talia nodded. "Yes. Very. It does sound intriguing. Any opportunity to spend time with you is most welcome."
Tanya smiled and linked her arm with Talia's. "Ditto on that, stone face."
As the girls reached a comer, an old looking gray sedan roared past, ignoring the traffic light and almost causing an accident. Moments later, a police car, lights flashing and sirens wailing zoomed by. The girls, along with other pedestrians looked down the street where they saw the gray car veer out of control and crash into a lamppost half a block away. The police car screeched to a stop a hundred feet away from the car they were pursuing and two officers jumped out, handguns drawn. But four thugs, armed with Uzi submachine guns scampered out of their vehicle and blasted away, sending the officers back into their vehicle, and pedestrians frantically scurrying for cover.
"It would appear that our alter egos will be needed to quell this situation before people are hurt," said Talia.
Tanya, her face set, nodded. "You got that right! Those cops are in big trouble! Time to clock in!"
The two girls dashed around the block and onto a vacant street. Satisfied that the coast was clear, Talia and Tanya raised their right hands high in the air.
"VULCAN STAR POWER!" shouted Talia, her fingernails turning purple in color. Then her transformation pen appeared in her hand and a triangle of golden light shot down from it, enveloping Talia from head to toe who spun within it like a ballerina, her clothes morphing into the purple and gold uniform of Sailor Vulcan, the Scout of Order.
"SIRIUS STAR POWER!" yelled Tanya, her nails painted black while a white six pointed star materialized on her forehead along with the Sirius Emerald Star Stone. The stone then glowed from a dark blue light that swallowed Tanya, changing her clothing in bursts of tiny stars into the blue and black uniform of Sailor Sirius, the Scout of the Stars.
"Let's make this fast, partner!" growled Sirius, cracking her black gloved knuckles. "We don't wanna be late for school!"
Vulcan nodded. "Understood."
The thugs laughed as they sprayed the police car with bullets from their guns. Two of the goons continued firing while the others scurried into the back seat of their wrecked car for the four full bags of money they stole from a bank two miles away as it's employees were arriving for work. The goons, two bags in each dashed behind their cohorts who covered them. Once away, they'd be very rich men. As the two goons who were still armed turned around, they stopped short at seeing two teenage girls dressed in colorful sailor suits and knee high boots blocking their way, their faces hard from anger.
"In case you dirtbags didn't know this, Uzis are illegal in Japan," growled Sirius, arms akimbo. "It's time you were reminded of that. Painfully. As the star that shines brightest in the heavens, I am Sailor Sinus, and you shall be vanquished!"
"And for endangering helpless innocents, I shall bring you to task for your crime," snarled Vulcan, her fists clenching and unclenching repeatedly. "Logic demands that evil such as yours be dealt with, for I am Sailor Vulcan, and I will eliminate you!"
"Shit! Just what we need!" snapped one of the hoods. "Kozu! Zap 'em!"
Before the two thugs could squeeze the triggers on their weapons, Vulcan and Sinus, moving almost too fast to see simultaneously snatched the guns out of their hands. As the goons looked on, the Scouts removed the clips from the weapons and dropped them at their feet. The two hoods holding the money bags had seen enough and fled, leaving their accomplices stranded.
Sirius shook her head in disgust at the fleeing pair. "You'd think they'd know better than to run from us. I got these two, Vulcan!"
Vulcan nodded. "Acknowledged." She then turned to face the two remaining goons who glared at her. "You would be advised to surrender before you come to harm."
"Screw you!" said the man named Kozu, going into a fighting stance, as did his cohort. "We don't need guns to kick your ass!"
"Indeed," said Vulcan, her voice dripping scorn. Keeping her eyes locked tight on the thugs, the Scout of Order knelt by the wrecked car, clutched the side of the vehicle with her left hand and, with a grunt of exertion, turned the car over on its side. The eyes of the goons bulged wide as saucers while their jaws fell open at the feat they witnessed.
Standing up, the alien Scout casually dusted off her hands, her eyes still fixed on the duo. "Well, gentlemen? Do you still wish to engage me in hand-to-hand combat?"
The thugs, shaking from fright, raised their hands.
"A most logical decision," said Vulcan.
The two thugs with the money bags ran as if their lives depended on it. Every few seconds, they looked behind them to see if they were being pursued, but saw no one. However, it never occurred to them to look up. If they had, they would've seen a blue and ebony blur, leaping from rooftop to rooftop, outrunning the hoods with frightening ease.
After having run full tilt for three blocks, the goons ducked into an alley. They stopped when they were halfway down to rest. Panting and wheezing, the crooks plopped down on the ground to rest.
"We lost them," said one of the thugs who wore a baseball cap.
His cohort, sporting a scruffy beard grinned. "Yeah! Even better, we only have to split this cash two ways instead of four!"
"Really? How are you gonna spend it when you're in prison?" came a voice from above them. The hoods bolted up just in time to catch a black booted foot to the face from Sirius.
The Star Scout smirked at her handiwork. "Not shabby, girlfriend. Not shabby at all."
Inspector Junko Sakurada, one of the very few full fledged women inspectors in the Tokyo Police Department scowled fiercely as she watched Vulcan tilt the car she overturned back onto its wheels. She hated vigilantes like the Sailor Scouts whom she saw as no better than the adversaries they fought against. A sixteen year veteran of the force, it infuriated her to see anyone, especially the Scouts pervert the law the way they did.
"If you're expecting me to thank you for interfering in police business with your grandstanding, you're in for a long wait," Junko growled to Vulcan.
The Scout of Order gave the policewoman an indifferent look. "It was never my intention to ask for your thanks, madam. I was merely doing my job."
"And what 'job' was that?"
"Saving helpless innocents, including two of your fellow officers," said Vulcan, picking up the two Uzis she and Sirius had taken from the hoods and displayed them before Junko. "Uzi submachine guns. All four of these miscreants were armed with them, pinning down your men and firing indiscriminately on a gathering crowd of onlookers. The actions of Sailor Sirius and myself prevented a possible slaughter."
Junko's scowl deepened as she pointed at two officers to take the weapons from Vulcan. "Speaking of Sirius, where is she?"
"She pursued the other hoodlums. She will return shortly."
"She'd better. Those goons had the money they stole."
"And here it is, ladies," said Sirius, marching the goons she captured ahead of her while she held the moneybags.
As two police officers grabbed the thugs and two more relieved the Star Scout of the bags, Junko stared at the badly battered faces of the thugs. "What happened to those two?" she asked Sirius.
"I introduced their faces to my size sevens," Sirius replied casually. "I made sure they didn't get far."
Junko was skeptical. "Oh, really? And did you by chance make sure to help yourself to some of that money as well?"
Hearing that, Sirius' eyes narrowed. "Are you calling me a thief? I don't appreciate the insinuation, lady!"
"Tough!" Junko snapped. "Just because you wear fancy costumes and have super powers doesn't mean you can take the law into your own hands! Not in my town!"
Sirius, trying not to lose her notoriously short temper, shook her head and chuckled sarcastically. Too many times she had encountered stubborn, narrow minded cops who, for one reason or another resented the Scouts. She tried not to let that get under her skin, but it was never easy. "Your town, huh? Funny, I thought this was Tokyo, not 'Cranky Bitchville'."
Junko, furious was about to fire back when Vulcan stepped between the women. "Ladies, may I suggest the two of you calm down? Inspector, regardless of whatever animosity you have towards us, the important thing was that we saved lives. Do not forget that. Sailor Sirius, your caustic interchange with the Inspector serves no purpose other than to further antagonize her. Also, we have business elsewhere. And time is short. We should depart."
Sirius, hearing the logic in Vulcan's words calmed down and let out her anger in a long breath. "You're right, partner. As always. Let's book."
Junko was incredulous. "That's it? What about this mess?"
"Hey, we did the dirty work, honey," said a sweetly smiling Sirius as she and Vulcan turned to leave. "See ya around the precinct!"
Junko, teeth tightly clenched seethed as Vulcan and Sirius sped off, leaping over a two story building in a single bound. "Miserable vigilantes. No matter how long it takes, no matter what I have to do, one of these days, I'm personally gonna nail your asses to the wall!"
Unknown to Junko and the Scouts, they had been observed from across the street. The girl with dirty blond hair, dressed in the light blue jumper uniform of her school watched the interchange intently.
For reasons she couldn't comprehend, the girl suddenly became angry when she saw the Scouts. Even though she had never seen them before today, it was as if the heroines were her worst enemies whom she wanted to kill even more than the thugs she murdered last night. The girl despised the Scouts with all her heart, yet, she had no idea why. All she had to go on were faded memories from long ago, the same memories that came to her every night in her dreams. Dreams in which she killed, just like last night.
"No. That was self defense," she whispered, shaking her head. "And I still don't know how I did that."
With a frown, the girl put the memories and the Scouts out of her head. She had to get to school and continue her mundane existence, something a submerged part of her psyche loathed.
