Women's Rugby
Two upsets in Quarter-Final cross-over play
It is not often that a 3rd placed team upsets a 2nd place team, but with the cross-over play-off structure for Women's Rugby the Guelph Gryphons did just that. Coming of a loss to the Queen's Golden Gaels the Gryphs travelled to Western and upset medal hopes for the 'Stangs. Outside Centre Brooke Hilditch put 20 points onto the board for Guelph while pack leader Christine Nahas kick-started the Gryphons rucking game resulting in a 29-17 quarter final win for the defending champions.
The Guelph -Western game wasn't the only upset in Quarter-Final play, the 4th place Varsity Blues edged out the previously undefeated Yeowomen 8-7. Flanker Tia West put a penalty kick between the pipes to give Toronto the one-point edge they needed to win this low scoring game.
In the other two quarter-finals Waterloo defeated McMaster 41-21, while Queen's beat Brock 15-5.
The next round of play-offs will be as follows with times and dates to be confirmed later in the week.
