What should you buy?

It is really up to your personal taste and likes. If you are not going to demand state of the art DX performance on HF then I will definitely recommend the AOR AR 8000. This little handheld knocks the socks of my three times more expensive Icom base when it comes to monitoring the airband and UHF. With a telescopic antenna it outperforms the Icom on these bands that is on a base antenna. And it was replaced I hear by the all new AOR 8200 which is even more sensitive in these bands and sports some other whopping features. The supplier above would be able to get you one for under R6000.00.

If you want HF performance then the 8200 will obviously not keep up with the big iron. Then again if you are really interested in HF why not become a Ham, then you can talk as well and we can listen to you :-).
