The half-demon by the name of Inuyasha is a "go and get'em" character who won't take anything lying down. Outwardly aggressive towards many of the other characters, he initially seems to be in it for himself and no one else. We later, of course, see a softer side to him and are able to sympathize with the events of his past. He and Kagome quickly join forces in hopes of salvaging the shards of the sacred jewel.
Kagome is the ever optimistic young heroine of the story and the reincarnation of the shrine maiden Kikyo. She is outgoing, caring and makes good use of the term "Osuwari!" or "Sit!" Constantly torn between her dedication to her adventures in Fuedal Age Japan and her responsibilities at home, she often finds herself balancing precariously between the two.
Miroku, the scandelous, lecherous monk whom we all grow to love. Always in urgent need of a woman to "bear his child", he initially sets his sights on Kagome but we see him back off early on due to the growing relationship between Inuyasha and Kagome. Miroku often times has words of wisdom that in themselves have a deeper meaning and he seems to be able to see through Inuyasha's rough exterior with ease. The hole in his hand known as the "Wind Tunnel", when used, sucks up everything around it and is a growing anxiety for Miroku as it continues to widen across his palm.
Sango is the last member to join the group. She is a fierce fighter and a demon slayer with her boomerang-like weapon Hiraikotsu. She gets along with all of the characters fairly well but is constantly plagued by the entrapment of her little brother, Kohaku. She is often found on the back of her cat-like sidekick, Kirara, and has earned Inuyasha's respect for being a worthy fighter.
Shippou is the adorable fox demon whom we meet early on in the series trying to avenge his father's death. He is first encountered as a large pink balloon-type creature. His best tricks are changing his form and using his limited fox magic. He can also use "fox fire", a large blue flame, when the group is in a dire situation. Shippou and Inuyasha get along rarely but Shippou seems to think of Kagome as a mother figure.
