The New Coopers Plains Library Book Rappers Club For Kids
If you live in Queensland, Brisbane, Coopers Plains or surrounding suburbs, you will love the new book rappers club at the Coopers Plains Library! Here you can participate in:
- Reading and talking about your favourite books
- Book Reviews
- Games
- Creating or writing your own stories
- Craft and library displays
- A club passbook
- Assisting in library programs
- Looking at first selection of new book stock
- Looking at children's internet sites
- Library challenges
The club is for boys and girls between the ages of 8 to 11.
The aim is for Book Rappers to read and talk about their favourite books and authors and to take part in other activities such as craft, games and library challenges.
Book Rappers will be encouraged to read a wide range of books and at the same time enhance their reading skills. A reading record sheet will be issued for each child to record what they read, and a passport will be used for stamps and stickers issued as rewards. Other rewards will be awarded at various stages.
Personally, I think that the Book Rappers club is a great chance for kids to improve their volcabulary and increase their reading speed. When you are reading for the Book Rappers club, there are two main things: 1. Don't read for the points and 2. Read large books as well as small ones.
Other people think that it is a great idea as well!
The Library Staff think it is a good idea to encourage kids around 11 years of age to read, and that reading is fun!
It is not too late to join - but the earlier you join the more fun stuff you will get! If you are wondering, here is the list of the rewards:
- Stamp for every book read
- 5 books read - laser star sticker (cool!)
- 10 books read - book beetle sticker, free hold (even cooler!)
- 50 books read - library bag, certificate, name on Book Rapper's board (super super cool!)
- 100 books read - afternoon tea in your honour, mystery gift, certificate, name on Book Rapper's board (this is the coolest!)
The book rappers frequently do cool stuff - we are working on a calendar, which is displayed below:

- Read different genres
- Rewards at intervals
When you join the book rappers, you will get an information kit. In this kit there will be:
- Book Rapper wallet folder
- Information brochure
- Reading record
- Passport
- Activity sheet questionnaire
- Calendar of activities (to be developed with members)
- "Make Reading a Hobbit" bookmark
- Book Rapper Web Sites
- Kerbie colouring in book
- Balloon
Of course, you will need a record. Don't worry, the library will supply with the necessities needed for keeping a reading record.
- Reading record for each child to record what they read
- Passport for library stamps and stickers
- Record kept on file for each child
Unfortuantly, there is one thing that is not provided with the book rappers club. This a library card. But the good news is that it is free, and all you have to do is ask for details at the library counter.
The club meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month from 4:00 to 4:45 at Coopers Plains Library.
When you do join, borrow books and read them, because I've already read 62 books!
So what are you waiting for? Get off your computer, and get down to the Coopers Plains Library for the Book Rappers club!
