We fully believe in standing behind any dog placed from SAKKARRA. I myself, have been through the ringer it seems in the past, over the heartache involved in unhealthy dogs (not afghans), or unforeseen maladies that may pop up. I do not think I may ever own another shar-pei as much as I love the breed, due to at the time they had become "popular", and that is death for any breed as everything thing is just thrown together willy nilly!
The afghan hound is a large breed that needs excercise and is high maintenence to keep in coat. Once a week is the least a dog should be "done", completely groomed...especially at the time of puppy coat drop, 8-14 months when it seems everything gets that fine "angora" afghan covering- even ceiling fans! An afghan doesn't really shed per say, as the hair that is loose stays in the coat, causing brushing to be mandatory. Its fun too!! As an adult, it isnt so bad with weekly grooming.
Show Contracts
We put in writing a guarantee that if any hereditary or genetic defects arise, we will replace the dog FOR LIFE. Not just the general 30 days that sees the norm. I believe that if someone is willing to put the time and effort into showing and raising an afghan hound, then I will return the good faith with a healthy quality animal that is a full representative of the breed. I do not believe in saying all are "show prospects" due to pedigree, parents etc.- in reality- anything with an AKC number and $22.00 show entry can be shown. I DO believe, a litter as a whole should reflect the quality behind them, not just a wonder dog with the rest being sub-standard. We have been EXTREMELY lucky as Oceanus seems to be a prepotent producer and we are so thrilled at the future with her and our puppies and that is the direction we'd like to pursue. please see link under "dogs being shown" to see what I mean!
If a puppy placed in a show home develops any future disqualifying faults keeping them from being shown, replacement is also guaranteed. I think, again, if a person has committed to show our puppy, keep him in condition, and traveling to shows, then it is my responsibility to ensure it is a dog worthy of that time invested. Enviroment is a major factor in a dogs temperment, BUT the same stands true if a dog's temperment keeps it from the ring(extreme temperments are not the norm for an afghan-well shouldnt be). We have been very lucky in ours seem more couch potatoes that bumblebees! A nice part of using Loco as a sire was his amazing "gay" temperment and he never knows a stranger! Oceanus is more the laid back "snotty" type who gazes past strangers as they speak directly to her! She is so sweet , and both Loco and she are TOY LOVERS! She does keep hers intact, shes more of a collector...he disects his and removers the squeakers instantly!
LIMITED/PET/FAMILY MEMBER Contracts carry the same health guarantees, but limited papers are sent with proof of spay or neutering, a must. If age permits, then altering will be done before shipping.
We do not breed unless we personally are looking to further our program, and we believe that is the ONLY reason to breed with the pet population being so high, and afghans with the need for so much room to run. They are not a commercial dog and I hope they are never deemed "in style". A Fenced yard is a must.
Very sparingly we have bred usually once every 2 years or so, and have a very limited number of dogs available- we usually end up keeping a good portion of any litter. The TOTAL number of dogs I have sold in 11 years is 11-6 being shown! So if ever any problems develop, we always take dogs back... and we do insist on one thing- pictures!!
