Chain of Survival

The Case for AED's

About 250,000 to 350,000 people die each year from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
Cardiac arrest causes the victim to loose consciousness with no pulse, or respiration's.
A Cardiac Arrhythmia known as Ventricular Fibrillation can occur very often
without any warning signs and victims may not report any previous cardiac symptoms prior to onset.
Death follows within minutes. Defibrillation is the only known
therapy for VF. For every minute that passes without defibrillation,
a victim's chances of survival decreases by 7-10%. Due to traffic delays and large building complexes,
quick EMS response isn't always possible.
Automated External Defibrillators make it possible for trained lay rescuers to deliver defibrillation.
AED's save precious minutes and improve survival rate for cardiac arrest victims. With Immediate CPR and Early Defibrillation within the first few minutes of onset a victims survival may be doubled.
The American Heart Association strongly encourages establishing Public Access Defibrillation programs
as an important way to save the lives of thousands of cardiac arrests victims.
