The
Truth of the
Seventh Day Sabbath
1. The Seventh Day Sabbath was established by
God after the Creation. He rested, blessed and sanctified the Seventh Day (Gen.
2:1-3).
2. God rested on the Seventh Day Sabbath not
because He was tired or weary (Isa. 40:28). God rested on the Seventh Day so that He
could establish a seven day week for mankind so that man can rest on the
Seventh Day of every week (Ex. 20:8-11).
3. God blessed the Seventh Day Sabbath because
He wants to bless His people who keep it holy.
“Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who
lays hold on it; who keeps from defiling the Sabbath” (Isa. 56:2-7; 58:13-14).
4. God sanctified the Seventh Day Sabbath
because He wants His people to worship Him on that day (Lev. 23:3; Acts 15:21). The word “sanctify”
means to make something holy, to set
it apart for a holy use, or separate it from ordinary things. The Seventh Day Sabbath is sanctified by God
to be used for Him alone. The Seventh
Day Sabbath begins on Friday at sunset and ends on Saturday at sunset (Lev. 23:32).
5. The Sabbath Day is
not any one of the seven days of the week, but it is specifically the Seventh
Day - Saturday. God pointed out exactly
which is the Seventh-Day Sabbath (Ex. 16:23-30).
6. God placed the Seventh Day Sabbath as the
Fourth Commandment. He knows that humans
will tend to forget the Sabbath, therefore He reminds His people, "Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it
holy . . ." (Ex. 20:8-11). The Fourth
Commandment is closely linked to the Creation Sabbath.
7. God commands His people to keep the Sabbath
Day holy “for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the
sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day
and hallowed it.” (Ex. 20:11)
8. God the Father is the Creator of the Seventh
Day Sabbath and when He was manifested
in the flesh as the Lord Jesus Christ He is the “Lord of the Sabbath” (Mk. 2:28). As
“Lord of the Sabbath” Jesus
Christ has complete control of the Seventh Day Sabbath regarding how it is to
be observed. He did not change the
Sabbath Day but He corrected and removed all the legalistic rules that were
invented by the false religious leaders of His time (Mk. 2:23-26; 3:1-5).
9. As “Lord of the Sabbath” Jesus Christ set an example of Sabbath
observance. “So He came to Nazareth,
where He had been brought up. And as His
custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to
read.” (Lk.
4:16) As “Lord of the Sabbath” Jesus “went down to Capanaum,
a city of Galilee,
and was teaching them on the Sabbaths.
And they were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with
authority.” (Lk.
4:31-32)
10. Anticipating
the Roman invasion in A.D.70, He commanded His disciples to "pray that your flight may not be in
winter or on the Sabbath" (Mt. 24:20). This proves the early Christians in the First Apostolic Church had kept the Seventh Day Sabbath more than thirty years after the
Lord Jesus Christ had ascended to heaven.
11. The Seventh Day Sabbath continued to be kept
by the disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ after His death and burial. “And they rested on the Sabbath according
to the commandment.” (Lk.
23:56)
12 On
the Sabbath Day the apostle Paul and his fellow-workers usually worshiped in
the synagogue (Acts 13:14; 17:2). Paul preached to the Jews
and also to the Gentiles on the Sabbath Day (Acts 13:42-44; 18:4). In cities where there
were no Jews nor synagogues Paul and his friends
continued to worship God on the Sabbath Day (Acts 16:11-13). It is clear the early Apostolic Church was keeping the Seventh-Day
Sabbath.
13 The teaching that the Sabbath is given only to the Jews is a serious
error. Our LORD said, "The Sabbath was made for man" (Mk. 2:27). "The people of
God",
meaning Christians, must keep the Sabbath (Heb. 4:9). Only those who obey God's
commandment to observe the Seventh-Day Sabbath will have the future "rest" in heaven (Heb. 4:1-11; Rev. 22:14).
14 Although the Seventh Day remains the same but observance of the
Sabbath is no longer under the law (Rom. 6:14). Our LORD taught that, under
grace, the Sabbath should be devoted to worshipping the One True God and doing
good works for mankind (Jn. 7:23; Mt. 12:1-13; Mk.
3:4). We honor Jesus Christ who is "also LORD of the Sabbath" (Mk. 2:28).
15 Throughout
the entire Holy Bible there is not a single verse that states God would change
the day of worship from the Seventh Day Sabbath into another day.
Throughout His entire life on earth the Lord Jesus Christ
did not even give a little hint that the Seventh Day Sabbath would be abolished
after His death, burial and resurrection.
There is not a single word in the New Testament which
indicates the Apostles in the Early Apostolic Church had ever declared that they would
no longer worship on the Seventh Day Sabbath.
The change of the day of worship from the Seventh Day
Sabbath to Sunday does not come from the One True God, the Lord Jesus Christ,
the Apostles or the First Apostolic Church.
The change comes from
ungodly sources.
