Brief
Background
My
family fled Cambodia during the late 1970's escaping from the Khmer
Rouge regime let by Pol Pot. We first fled to a refugee camp in neighboring
Thailand, where in 1981 I was born. In 1983, after many years in
various refugee camps throughout Southeast Asia, we arrived in America
ready to start our new future...
Many years have now passed... Although, I've had a lot of great experiences during
those years, I've also had to face some obstacles and losses
in life. These experiences, both good ones and difficult ones, along
with the values I have learned from my parents and family have shaped
me into who I am today.
Currently I am a senior at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. I
look forward to graduating very soon. One of the things that I would
like to do after graduation is to go visit Cambodia for the very first
time. I love the Cambodian culture -- the arts, history, and its people.
I would like to experience it first hand and see my roots.
