Select's Sugar SC

1995 - 2004

On April 17, 2004 I held Sugar the entire 3 hour trip south to her breeder, Dr Tracy, to end her pain. It was fitting, as I had held her the entire 3 hour trip north when she was a naughty little puppy in 1995.

Sugar barooed only for my Dad, and when he died, her baroos did too. I know the first thing she did at the Rainbow bridge was to find my Dad and give him all the baroos she had been saving for him.

Sugar was the first basenji to get sick here, and I was amazed at the reactions of my other dogs. During her last week, Rosa and Corie would not leave Sugar alone. They insisted on laying next to her. Even the 4 pups knew that Sugar would leave us soon.

good-bye, my sweet Sugar

Sugar's page:

Sugar is the first basenji to come to live in the Perrine household. I waited 30 years for a basenji, and Sugar was a wonderful 'first' basenji. She does all the quirky little things basenjis do, but always with a silly and loving attitude.

Sugar is a very busy basenji, active and curious. We discovered that if she is kept physically and mentally challenged, she is happier (read - easier to live with). She loves to course, and tried agility with my daughter. However, it is very hard for Sugar to understand that the obstacles cannot always be done in her order!

Sugar amazed us all with her appearance at the Ohio State Fair. She knew it was a very important day for her and Monica, and behaved her very best. They were such a good team, they won First in the state in the Jr. Grooming and Handling judging. Not bad for their first year.
