I compiled and edited this list of articles in chronological order to show that there has been a 107 year history of environmental writing on the San Jacinto Mountains. However, the first naturalist to begin observing the native plants of the San Jacintos were the early 1880s visits by Samuel Parish, nearly 125 years ago. Thus the legacy of natural history studies, exploration, and science is the longest running form of recreation activity done in the mountains. All you need to do now is select one of following web page links on various topics of natural history. You can transport yourself back in time to an earlier naturalist's writings, whether your interest is in flora, fauna, poetry, or conservation.
