Project Management by Internet

With the advent of Internet, not many of those who are involved in construction such as developers, architects, consultants and contractors realize that they can significantly save cost and  time by utilizing the Internet facilities to manage and monitor their projects and run their organizations effectively.
A significant amount of expenses in telephone calls, outstation travels, accommodation and time can be minimized or saved through effective use of the facilities available in the Internet for project management.

Saddle Dam

A rock-filled dam with a clay material as the impervious zone at the core. It is 195m long and 27m high. It is part of the Beris Dam project.

Sg. Terenas Bridge

The bridge is 390m long and consists of 13 spans of 30-metre long prestressed precast I-beams. It is considered to be the longest bridge in Kedah. It is part of the diversion road, which was built to replace the submerged K8 road connecting Sik to Nami.

Project Management by internet is basically managing and monitoring the project by using a website to contain all the information about the project, such as the parties involved, contract details, progress photographs, the Gantt Chart to show the actual progress against the expected progress of works, latest payment status, progress report and percentage of completion, such that if anyone is to open the website, he can immediately know the status of the project.
Communication is done by email or through instant messaging, where the boss can "chat" with his site representative or "video conferencing" using a webcam to discuss on any issues pertaining to the project.

If there are more than one project site to monitor, the GIS (Geographical Information System) can be incorporated into the web-site so that the location of all the sites can be mapped out. With just a click of the mouse, a person can zoom into a particular project site to get a closer and detailed information. There is no need to physically visit the site to see the physical progress of works because the progress photos and/or videos are available at the website for him to view for himself. If necessary, a camera can be placed at each strategic location at the site to record the progress of work there in real time.
