About 450-500 Rose verities are found in Bangladesh. Most of them are hybrid tea. Mainly four rose groups are available here. They are: Hybrid Tea, Floribunda (Grandiflora), Miniature, Polyantha. Polyantha thrive here quite well. Also some Climber found here—they are mostly HT climber (such as; Cl. Chrimson glory). One Tea Noisette climber (Mare´chal Niel) is found here. Some tea roses and Damask rose also found here

The only wild rose species of
Bangladesh is Rosa clinophylla. (a) Rosa clinophylla: grows in marshy region of Sylhet District. During the rainy season half of the bush stays under water—Young small bushes stay completely under water for about 5-6 months. This species begin flowering in the beginning of February (beginning of summer) when most of the modern roses almost finish their flowering. |

By using Rosa clinophylla as a one of the parents in rose breeding, we might able to produce heat tolerant and water-logging resistant roses in future for the topics.

Only one rootstock is used here and this is known here as Rosa multiflora. It flowers once a year from February to March—in cluster—flower pink-white, double.

Recently I have
collected Rosa clinophylla and an unidentified rose bush, which has
glossy leave, hairy bark, single white flower—it flowers once a year—from
February to March. [No experiments
have not been done yet here on both varieties/species (Rosa clinophylla
and found rose bush) suitability as rootstock] |

Flowering &Pruning time |
![]() |
|||||||||||||||
The best time
for flowering is winter (mid December to end of the February). After
February weather become very hot and until May it remain same. At that
time very low quality flower are produced. From the beginning of May it
starts to rain –gradually rainy season began and it last until end of the
September. At that time if we regularly spray fungicide and pesticide we
certainly get satisfactory amount of flower but not that high qualities
like winter.
First week of October to first week of November is the best time for pruning. But some commercial gardens start pruning one month earlier to get early flower market.
