Mouse Genome Database RatMap Latest News: Mouse Mapped

We are pleased to inform you on behalf of the Rodent Genome Sequencing Consortium (RGSC) that the sequencing of the mouse has finally been accomplished. The complete database has been made available free of charge for your convenience at http://ratmap.gen.gu.se/

New! Blast your own sequence against the mouse genome and check out for orthologous pairs! Now thanks to the Human-Mouse Homology Map  you can compare your personal genetic makeup with that of the rat. It will be delightfully surprising to find that you two have much more in common than you suspected.

Here are the other fascinating genomes, besides those of Homo Sapiens and Mus Musculus, that have been sequenced so far:

  • Deinococcus radiodurans: a bacterium that can withstand 1.5 million rads of gamma radiation, commonly found in cow and elephant dung.
  • Vibrio Cholerae: the pathogenic bacterium that causes cholera.
  • Arabadopsis thalania: a small mustard used as the model organism for plant genetics and biochemistry.
  • Caulobacter crescentus: a bacterium used in the treatment of sewage.
  • Chalmydia trachomatis: a bacterium that causes eye infections and pelvic inflammatory disease.
  • Chlamydia pneumoniae: its sister, causes 10% of pneumonia cases in humans.
  • Thermotoga maritima: a bacterium found living at 176 degrees Farenheit in the Vesuvius, Italy.
  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis: the carrier of tuberculosis.
  • Neisseria meningitidis: the carrier of meningitis.
