Deer Diary

Roger has begun chronicling his journey and wishes to share it with you here (luckily for us comet gave him a diary for Christmas).

Deer diary,                                                                                                          12 Dec

Today's the day!  See you there!

Deer diary,                                                                                                               10 Dec

In Hobart - close to home now.  I'm glad my journey is almost at an end.  It has been a long 12 months since I was there with you all at last year's Christmas party - a lot has happened in my life, including the birth of my first fawn, Reggie.  I must say that I feel somewhat relieved to be coming home at last, to my family at Theatre North.  See you all at the Party!!!

Well continuing my journey south, I am in Melbourne at the moment - had a near escape with a tram - thank goodness I'm quick on my feet, or else the only thing sitting down with you all at the Christmas Dinner would be some antlers, a red nose and some garden mulch!

Well Christmas is just around the corner - and the Theatre North Christmas Dinner even sooner than that - I thought I'd better get my skates on and head back into the country!  Queensland is lovely this time of year - really very hot and uncomfortable for Christmas reindeer though - I think my hedge is wilting a bit.  I really don't know how I am going to get to the Christmas dinner on the 12th - I don't think I'll have the taxi fare, can anyone give me a lift? Please let me know OK?

Shed a few tears over my four blue suede shoes, but enough crying like a hounddog, it's time I moved on....Roger has left the building ladies and gentlemen - thankyou very much.

Well I am here in Disneyland at the moment, been very busy touring around the world, trying to fit in as much as possible. Here at Disneyland, I've been trying to avoid Goofy - he freaks me out, something about him just doesn't look real, he reminds me of George Bush...spooky!

I'm continuing my journey now, thanks for all the congrats about the new fawn. I hope Theatre North got my postcard, so hard to keep up with all the friends I have while on the move like this. I'm at Scotland at the moment, getting into all the traditional gear, and I must say these kilts are a wee bit breezy for my liking! Best dash, I have so much to do before I return for Christmas dinner on the 12th of December, hope everyone is as excited as I am that I am coming home at last.

"Words cannot describe how I feel now. Zoomed home and spent some quality time with the new baby. Had to zoom back again - Rose understands, we have agreed to live our lives apart, but still care for little Reggie together. Decided to get a job here in England, I'm tending bar at a Wildlife resort. Hey I had to earn some cash now I have to pay fawn support!

...I'm totally speechless!

Here in Jolly old England again.  Just catching up with old friends, Tony invited me around for tea, but I just couldn't blair it.

Spending some time exploring the European continent, and thoroughly enjoying myself.  I'm finding it a little difficult to get my head around the exchange rates, what with the Euro dollar and all that, as a Christmas reindeer I'm mostly familiar with trading in sticks of striped candy cane and mince pies - but there you go, travel does expand tthe mind.

Doesn't time fly when you're having fun, I can hardly believe I have been away from you all for over half a year now.  I've taken to the mountains at the moment, tried my hooves at skiing - unfortunately they don't cater for quadrupeds here, which I think is a mistake.  They need to make more skis with two foot straps on each ski, and I definitely need a beanie with room for antlers!  Don't know where I'll journey to next - Any suggestions?? Put them in my guest book - OK??

Hitting the road in England now, decided to roam free.  There are some friends of mine from the Princess Theatre here in England at the moment, but I haven't had the chance to go see them.  I suspect they will move on once they know I'm in the country!  Hey  I'm not a stalker...the charge was never proven by that Caribou!

Here in Jolly old England!  Had my picture taken along side some clock or other.  Spent some time in London, just checking out the fashions and all - nothing much in the way of Reindeer clobber though.  Met some nice lady near a castle, seems she took her dogs for a walk and forgot her keys or something, caused a bit of a stir.  Going to head into the country a bit more...I'll just keep going where my hooves take me.

Finally took the plunge and headed overseas - might as well make the trip worthwhile...I've still got seven months to fill in before I have to be back for the Theatre North Christmas dinner.  Paris was my first stop, and I don't mind admitting that standing beneath the Eiffel tower made me feel a little inadequate size-wise. I don't know what they're compensating for over here!  I ventured into a natty little restaurant to order some French cuisine for lunch yesterday, only to make a rather hasty exit when I realised that the French will eat almost anything - I didn't want to be the next course!  Anyway "Au revoir"...see...I'm picking up the lingo already!

In the nation's capital today...I ran into some strange little bloke with big eyebrows and glasses,  I think he was trying to sell something, creepy!  Canberra is very nice but I'm starting to miss Tasmania and all my deer friends there.  It's nice to know they are still thinking about me though, I really enjoy getting messages in my guest book, makes me feel wanted.

Sydney is wonderful at the moment.  It is not true that I came here just for the Mardi Gras, but since I was in the general vicinity I decided to stop by.  I was almost run down by a woman in comfortable shoes on a bike, but apart from that it was a real blast!  I even participated in one of the displays - although I'm not sure exactly what those two guys were doing behind me with a banana - anyway the crowd enjoyed it!

Some friends of mine

I consider that rumours should not be dignified with responses.  Needless to say I need some space at the moment, so I am heading off again.  I'm writing this from the airport, my bags are packed, the ticket's in my hoof, and I'm on my way....I hope I don't get airsick!

"love...is a many splendid thing"...I can't stop singing, since I met Rose.  She's perfect.  She has beautiful eyes, a sweet little red nose, and a fantastic set of antlers.  She's everything I have been looking for, and now we're going to continue our journey together!  Wow!  Theatre North be warned, I will need two table settings at this years Christmas Party!

Well I am here in Scottsdale at the moment, been very busy touring the north east of the state.  I stayed a while in St Helens, but the amount of tourists there meant I couldn't find a quiet spot on the beach to relax.  I also went to the lavender farm, but became alarmed at the number of bees interested in my hedge!  I feel I must travel further afield soon...

Deer diary,                                                                                                                19th Jan

Haven't actually got any photos back yet, but I've been on the move again.  I've sure been busy, what with travelling around and keeping this website up and running, I haven't even had enough time to trim my hedge-hair, I must make an appointment at 'Salon Brushcutter' soon.

Deer diary,                                                                                                                10th Jan

At Cradle Mountain at the moment, quite spectacular! Haven't seen any cradles about yet though.  I haven't really worked out where I am going to go yet, I just go where my hooves take me.  I'm really pleased with the response to my web page - It's good to keep in touch with everyone.  I was wondering when someone wrote they were coming to get me...but they haven't turned up so far!

Deer diary,                                                                                                               6th Jan

Passed my test!  Even though my reverse parking was a little off they gave it too me anyway.  I think they realised just how hard it is to keep checking your mirrors when your antlers get in the way.  Anyway  now I can explore a little further into the state.  My only problem at the moment is with self-serve service stations - I can't reach the pump!

Deer diary,                                                                                                                1st Jan 2003

Christmas is over, and I am really thankful for that!  I was standing in as  a substitute for Rudolph this year.  He wasn't fully recovered from the nose-job he had (in fact I can't even tell that he's had it, it still looks like the same big honker to me).  Anyway Santa needed me to fill in because even though my nose isn't as big as Rudolph's, it certainly is as red!  Now that I am finished that I think I will get my driver's licence (I've only got a sleigh licence at the moment) so that I will have more freedom to get around.  Hitchhiking is murder on my hooves!

Deer diary,                                                                                                                25th Dec 2002

Have begun my journey at last, while I will miss my friends at Theatre North , I can't help but feel excited at the prospect of freely roaming around.  I started my journey by hitchhiking out past Deloraine.  It was amazing how friendly people were (I suppose they thought it would be best to be nice to a Reindeer - especially seeing as Christmas was coming up).  Anyway I found a lot to look at around that area, and spent some time just relaxing.  I did have one rather tense moment when I went to feed some ducks, I think they mistook me for a particularly succulent bush , and I was in danger of being pecked to death.  Luckily I escaped from that one by using  a mixture of bluff and karate.
