- New phonecards from Matav-Hungary.
It is always a pleasure for Matav to start a new series. This time a four card set will introduce each of the great places that are a part of the World Heritage. The latest edition to the heritage is shwon on the first card, the Pannonhalma Abbey. Built in 996 and deicated to St Martin, the abbey is situated on a hill-top overlooking the region. This card carries 800Fts and 300,000 are made. Note that this is not the first card featuring the abbey. The previous card was created in '96 to commemorate the 1000 years of the abbey.
After the beaver, the new card in the "1212 advertising set" features the kangaroo. This mascot advertises the new customer service number 1212. 200,000 are made and the card has 800Fts.
Three new low-mintage cards were produced. All of the cards have 200Ft calling time, but cost a lot more.
The first card commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Council of Europe, which held its latest meeting in Budapest. 2000 cards were produced.
Anyone who follows European boxing or the Olympics has heard of the nicest boxer in the world, Koko. This card has a mintage of 2500. He has already been featured on the Atlanta '96 set as a gold medal winner.
The next card is sort of cheesy. It shows a favorite of the Hungarians, the Swiss Cheese. Two types of cards were made. Some have holes and some don't. Just watch out, don't eat the card!
