The Cypriot phonecard newsletter
First edition
Dear Friends
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Pete Novak for giving us this opportunity to exchange ideas and information relating to our hobby. To Henry in China, your frequent inputs have been a great help.
I began collecting phonecards about two years ago as an alternative to coin collecting, and that was just a casual collecting phase, probably picking up about 30 or so cards in a period of 14 months. It was only when I saw an advertisement on the net that the Greek phonecard collectors club would be staging an exhibition in Larnaca, and special commemorative cards (tirage 2000) would be sold at the event, that I became interested in the hobby, to a level that drives my wife absolutely insane.
Since then I have exchanged cards with many people, and am sure that like many of you have lost cards to some. One thing that I have noticed, is the lack of enthusiasm for Cypriot cards, and by the tirages of some issues I can see why, but there are a large number of Cypriot cards that are expensive and rare. To date, two catalogues have been published regarding Cypriot phonecards, but in both issues, the authors do not include prices.
If permitted I will over the coming weeks submit as detailed information about Cypriot cards as I can, quoting prices that one would expect to pay in Cyprus. It is I suppose in many cases, one mans meat is another mans poison with regards to Cypriot cards. I have seen our common cards advertised on the net from 3 to 6 US Dollars, and our rarer cards hovering at the same price range, I wish it were the case here.
