Celtic Dance Factory

The Celtic Dance Factory (CDF) is a small dancing studio which teaches both Highland and Irish Dancing and we are located in Johannesburg, South Africa. We welcome all those who are interested in this form of dance be it social or competitive dancing.

The Principal of the CDF is Elinor Boyes who holds the following qualifications:

• Fellow of the Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance.
• Adjudicator of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing.
• Associate Teacher An Coimisiun le Rinci Galacha (Irish Dancing).
• Elinor also qualified as a Modern Dance and Tap teacher.

Regular classes are held for both Highland and Irish dancing for Beginners through to Championship dancers (*) at Emmerentia Primary School and at the CDF Studio at 10 Berg Road, Randpark Ext.2, Randburg.

Elinor has been dancing from the age of 4 years and includes Ballet and Spanish Dancing in her repertoire. She has competed in Highland Dancing Championships and has achieved the following results and accomplishments:

• 1974 South African Junior Champion
• 1975 and 1978 South African Pre-Senior Champion
• 1979 to 1984 South African Adult Champion
• Elinor competed in the World Highland Dancing Championships held in Dunoon, Scotland in 1982, 1983 and 1984 and was placed sixth overall in the Adult Championship in 1983.
• In 1998, Elinor adjudicated the Australian Champion of Champion's Open Championship held in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
• In 1995, Elinor brought Irish Dancing teaching video tapes to South Africa and together with her mother, Shonah Robinson, started teaching Irish Dancing in South Africa. Elinor is a member of the Irish Dancing Association of South Africa.
• Elinor has also coreographed both Highland and Irish Dance sequences in two Celtic Festivals held in Johannesburg.

The students of the Celtic Dance Factory enjoy dedicated and highly qualified instruction and above all have tremendous fun learning and competing in Celtic Dance. Students who do not wish to compete in the various Highland and Irish competitions and exams are also accommodated at the CDF.

(*) - Irish Dancing competition in South Africa has only recently been launched (since 1999) and dancers up to xxx Beginners compete. With time our dancers will progress up to the more advanced and Championship sections of competition dancing and competitions held in South Africa will accommodate them accordingly.
