ASSIGNMENT 7: FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL
After you have selected a topic for your Final Research Project, the next step
is to write a research proposal.
Goal: To clearly state what you are researching
and why you are researching it.
Assignment: Write a research proposal in which
you include the following:
- Your topic.
- A research question. This is a question that reveals the specific
aspect of your topic which you are exploring in depth (e.g. "Does chatting
online transfer to improved speaking skills in ESL students?").
- What you want to find out in your research. If you have an opinion
about your topic already, state that opinion. If you have no opinion or you're
not sure of your opinion, say so. NOTE: You should approach your research
with an open mind; your opinion may change or become clear to you after
you do your research.
- Why this topic is important to you. Tell the reasons that brought
you to choose this topic and what you hope to get out of doing the research.
You or your students may be directly affected by the issue you are researching.
Or, it may be that you think it is a topic that is so important that you want
to understand it more and believe that other people should know about it.
Be specific about why you choose your topic.
