ASSIGNMENT 6: WEB PUBLISHING
Goal:
The purpose of this assignment is for you to develop an introductory understanding
of how to create and connect web pages, so that you will be able to publish
your final project report on the Web. In addition, I also hope you will connect
your own web publishing experience with potential applications for your students.
Directions:
- Create
a basic web page that serves as your online bio (short for "biography").
This should be designed to provide professional information about you for
your students, colleagues, potential employers, etc. Be sure to include the
following information, as it applies:
- teaching background
(including names of courses taught)
- tutoring background
- teaching philosophies
- educational background
- interests in ESL
community
- personal information
(not required)
Remember to use content from your journals re: teaching philosophies,
etc.!
- Save your bio page as
"bio.html", and save it in the same folder as "index.html"
- Download a copy of your
picture from the "Student Projects"
page in our class website. Insert that picture at the top of your bio page.
(You can remove or replace it later, if you wish.)
- Create reciprocal links
between your homepage (index.html) and your bio page (bio.html). Add a link
from your "index.html" page to your bio page (bio.html), from the
phrase "About the Instructor." Create a link from your bio page
to your homepage from "Return to homepage" (you'll need to add this
text to your bio page). [See
an example]
Due:
03/14/01, 6:00 p.m. (in class--see below)
Format:
- Text: HTML format
- On the PC, use Notepad
to edit your web documents (Start -> Programs ->
Accessories -> Notepad; From "Edit" menu, select "Word
Wrap")
- On a Mac, use Simple
Text to edit your web documents
- Graphics: JPG (photos)
or GIF (drawings)
Submit Assignment: To
submit your assignment, you will upload your web pages (bio.html, index.html)
and associated graphics (724 logo, your picture) to the Yahoo! Geocities server.
We will do this together in class, and I will provide you with step-by-step
documentation.
Bring all your web files on a floppy disk to class that evening. If you do not
have a floppy drive on your home computer, you can create a folder in the Files
section of our Yahoo! Groups site and upload all your files there. Then, you'll
need to download them to the computer you use in HUM 200. Be sure to arrive
at least 15 minutes before class to do this!!

This assignment is worth 2 points.
