LESSON 3: UPLOADING WEB PAGES TO THE CEA SERVER
Your e-mail account at CEA also comes with personal web space on CEA's primary
WWW server. Once you've created your web pages and graphics, you just need to
upload them to the web server and then they will be available for the world
to see!
Using Fetch (Mac) to Upload
Once you've created web pages and graphics, you can upload them to the CEA server using Fetch (Mac).
- Launch Fetch.
- To connect to the server, log in with the same user ID and password you
use for CEA e-mail (userid@cea.edu). Enter "bw.cea.edu" for
Host, your userid for User ID, your password, and "public"
for directory (as in the example below), then click the OK button:
- Once you're connected (see status, upper right corner of screen),
you should see:
NOTE: On this screen, you should see the contents of your web folder ("public").
To begin, you should only see one file: index.html. This
file is a placeholder which was automatically generated for you when your
account was created. Now, you'll replace this placeholder with the index.html
file you've been working on since the first day of class.
- Upload your "index.html" file by clicking on the
button. Follow the screen below to find your index.html file
on your local computer or disk:
HTML files = "text"
graphics files (.GIF & .JPG) = "raw data"
- To download files from your web server, use the
feature. Highlight/select a file from the web server, click on "Get File"
and then select a location on the local computer where a copy of the file
will be stored.
NOTE: To move multiple files at once, go to "Remote" menu
and select either "Get Folders and Files ..." (download)
or "Put Folders and Files ..." (upload).
The URL
For others to see your web pages, you will need to give them an address. Your
homepage address will be:
http://www.cea.edu/~userid
example: http://www.cea.edu/~frizzy
