Social Teachings of the Church
1.) 2 of the 10 Building Blocks at SLUH
One of the 10 building blocks that I see at SLUH today is Human Dignity. From what I have observed, students at SLUH treat each other with respect no matter what groups they are in, what sports they play, or what ethnicity they are. We all treat each other with love and respect because we are all family in the SLUH community. At SLUH, no one is left out and everyone is included. At other schools I hear of those who are left out and have trouble making friends, but at SLUH, it seems as if no matter who you are, you will make friends at SLUH.
Another one of the 10 building blocks that I see at SLUH today is solidarity. One motto of SLUH is "Brotherhood". This is similiar to solidarity. I feel at SLUH, a "brotherhood" is created at freshman year, and only strengthens as we get closer to college. Together as one we are comfortable and unique.
2 of the 10 Building Blocks missing at SLUH
One of the 10 building blocks that I do not see at SLUH is participation. Numerous students at SLUH do not chose to participate in extracurricular activities provided by SLUH such as CSP programs such as Habitat for Humanity, and sports. By not participating, they are isolating themselves from the rest of us, and they are only hurting themselves. I feel that Participation and socializing is such an important factor in maturing and learning in life, and many students at SLUH are missing out.
Another one of the 10 building blocks that I do not see at SLUH is stewardship. Often students do not care whether or not they are hurting the environment or not. An example of this is during lunchtime when recycling bins and regular trashcans are lined next to each other, and people with plastic bottles choose not to recycle. The effort to recycle is no different than just throwing it away, but the results of recycling are so much more beneficial for the environment. Also, students often leave trash around, such as in the desks in Mr. Sciuto's room, and in other places. Once again, it takes little effort if any just to throw away trash into a trashcan rather than throwing it on the ground. In the long run, throwing trash on the ground creates much more work for those around us compared to if we would just throw things away properly.

3.)Two key ideas of this section
One key idea that I would like to remember from this section is from Fr. Ralph Huse. He spoke of how pride is the ultimate sin. This is similiar to William O'Malley's article when he explained how we must not become self absorbed. When we become too full of pride, we lose sight of God and do not feel that we are doing anything wrong when we sin. We make ourselves feel so powerful that we forget that without God's help, we would be nothing at all.
