Challenges to Faith

Key Idea of "Challenges to Faith"
1.) In this section, we explore the challenges to our Faith that we Catholics go through. These challenges cause us to rethink our Faith and think about how others see the world. They can contradict with our regular views, and can cause us to change our ways. In the beginning of this section, atheism is discussed. Catholics are often taken back by the fact that there are many people who do not believe in God. Another challenge to our Faith is science. Science teachings often seem to go against Catholic beliefs, but in this section, they are portrayed as going hand-in-hand with one another. When we study science, we sometimes have trouble believing in both Catholicism and science teachings. An example of this is that in science, everything has evidence, and has reason, while in religion, we rely on faith to believe in many things. One other challenge discussed in this section is dehumanization. In society today, we often see things that go against the teachings of our Faith, and we are affected by these greatly. Our values and believes about what is right can change in a great way. An example in society today is our watching of movies and television shows, causing us to treat people of the opposite sex differently and judge those of different races before even meeting them.
Two of the most important ideas I want to remember from this section.
2.) From this section of our Faith course, I have learned a few lessons, but there are two lessons that I have learned are most important to me. (a.) Though some people call themselves practicers of a certain religion, they very well may not be a true follower. In this section we call them practical atheists. This point has made me practice my faith more reverently, because I do not want to be seen by others as a practical atheist. (b.) The second important lesson is the NOMA idea: that science and religion don't contradict each other, but they are particular solutions to certain things in our lives. For things such as how does the food chain work, science is the answer. For things such as is there a heaven or a hell, religion is the answer.
An image that reminds me of the topic
3.) This image reminds me of how what we see on television can affect our views of the opposite sex. The shows, and videos played on "BET" are often very dehumanizing to women, and can easily change a person's viewpoint of women in the real world. After watching "BET", one may see women as unequal to men, or as an object to look at.
