We can learn several things by examining the life of Amanda in What the Bleep Do We Know. No matter how strange or wacky we think Amanda’s unique day is, we can easily relate her strange day to our secular lives. We can learn from Amanda that we can overcome fears, create our own realities and delve into the truth of life.
Amanda is at first in the film, a scared and lost person. She has no direction in life and her ways of living are uninspiring. As her day unwinds, it becomes more and more crazy. She is frightened of what is happening to her but later learns to go with the flow of things and just learn from what is going on. We too must not be scared by experiences in life that discourage us, yet, we must step back and evaluate what is happening and we will most likely learn something that will help us out in the future. Amanda overcomes her fears by learning from her experiences.
Amanda also has realized that she can truly alter her realities. There is no set path that she must follow in life, but there are better paths than others. It is up to us to decide which path we take. Our decisions that we make shape the reality that will come forth. Thus, we can control our realities. Amanda decides to get to know the man she met at the wedding and she is happy with her decision. She had always been hesitant with other men because her wedding became a disaster with her husband. She alters her reality as we can too.
Amanda comes to realize after her weird day that truth is hard to find. We often get distracted in life and truth is present but disguised. When Amanda looks in the mirror, she sees a fat and ugly person, but then realizes that the image was a falsehood created in her own mind. She eventually comes to see herself as beautiful and begins to see truth and beauty in many things including for the first time her own life. We look at Amanda and see that truth and beauty can be hard to find in our lives, but when they are found, can free us from our false realities that we were trapped in.
Amanda was a scared, lost, and confused person until her experiences on one day where her whole life was altered. She became a confident, strong, and truthful person, which we too can strive to become.
