11 years after the Meiji Restoration, most of the revolutionaries have become just as currupt as the government that they once opposed. All samurai have lost most of their past rights. Kenshin Himura, a former revolutionary, goes to the Kamiya residence. He holds on to a reverse blade, so he can avoid killing, and walks around with it in daylight when it is now illegal. Then he meets Kaoru Kamiya. After helping her out, he decides to stay with her until all her students have returned. Along the way they meet many people who pretend to be Battosai, the manslayer, when really Kenshin is Battosai but does not wish to kill anymore people. Rurouni Kenshin is about his Past...Present...and Future.
