Evening Supplication to the Theotokos

First Qauma

IN THE NAME of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, One God, to Whom be glory and upon us, weak and sinful, be mercy and compassion in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen.
Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Tzevaoth, heaven and earth are full of Thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. † Blessed is He that comes in the Name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
HOLY art Thou, O God!
Holy and mighty, holy and immortal, Who was crucified for us: have mercy on us!
HOLY art Thou, O God!
Holy and mighty, holy and immortal, Who was crucified for us: have mercy on us!
HOLY art Thou, O God!
Holy and mighty, holy and immortal, Who was crucified for us: have mercy on us!
O Christ, hear us! O Christ, our God, hear us and have mercy! O Christ, our God and King, hear us and have mercy and compassion on us! Barekhmar!
OUR Father,
Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth
as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for † Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Peace be with thee, Virgin Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blest is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners in both worlds. Amen.

Proper of the Supplication

OPEN unto us the door of Thy mercies, O Compassionate Lord, and send us not empty away, for in Thee have we put our trust. Through Thee do we obtain salvation and freedom, O Savior and Redeemer of the world. Have mercy upon us, O Lord, for we have truly hoped in Thee. Be Thou not angry with us forever and remember not our inward and outward offenses and iniquities, but deliver us and protect us from our enemies according to the multitude of Thy mercy and forgiveness, for Thou art our God and we are Thy people and Thine inheritance and unto Thee do we send up glory, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, One God in both worlds, unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen.

Psalmody

§ The Psalms of the Evening with their Antiphons, ending with the Doxology.

The Supplication

"The whole earth rejoices, O Virgin, in thee,"
Our parents have taught us to say;
In thee the great promise that we should be free
Is brought to its fullness. O save us, we pray!
Beg Jesus to save us we pray!

At sowing, at harvest, and once for the vine,
Thy blessing we ask on our land.
Thy Son has these chosen, the wheat and the wine,
To teach us and feed us by His Holy Hand.
To teach and feed by His Holy Hand.

BLESSED Mother of God, be thou ever our advocate and mediator to thy Son, Jesus Christ, that He may bless us with forgiveness, mercy and compassion. May we, by worshipping Him in spirit and truth, be found worthy to enter His glory and dwell among the blessed congregation of His saints in the heavenly mansions of His everlasting kingdom.

O thou pride of all the faithful,
Thou to whom we sinners flee,
Pray to Him thou bore for mercy
For all them who cry to thee.

GLORY BE...

O thou mystery of the aeons;
Fountain, thou, of chastity.
Thou that heard the Angel greeting,
"Blessed woman, peace to thee!"

IN BOTH worlds...

Peace, thou field that knew no plowing
Wheat thou bore to feed us all;
Peace, thou vine that knew no dressing
Wine thou pressed to mend our fall.
Amen.

WE BESEECH thee to plead our cause before thy beloved Son, that He may forgive us our sins and sanctify us by His grace. O compassionate Mother, do thou ask from Him forgiveness, mercy and compassion for all the faithful who bless thee, praise thee and magnify thee. Pray, O thou that art never sought in vain, that He grant peace to the world, victory to the Church, forgiveness to the sinners, healing to the sick, deliverance to the distressed, and comfort to all who are grieved.

Peace, thou ladder unto heaven,
Thou that bore the Lord Most High;
Peace, thou depth that knows no fathom,
Dwelling greater than the sky.

GLORY BE...

Peace, thou ark of God's Great Promise.
Peace, thou Temple of His Flesh.
Peace, thou Eden of His Blessing
Where He starts His world afresh.

IN BOTH worlds...

Peace to thee that saved thy mother;
Peace to thee, that raised her fall.
Peace to thee, Belov'd of Heaven;
Thou that bore the Lord of All.
Amen.

O CHRIST, our Lord and Creator, have mercy upon us for Thy Mother's pity on our behalf. Grant unto us freedom from the deception of the satan and deliver us from the wicked powers, for we are Thy servants and unto Thee do we commit our souls. Have mercy and compassion on us, for we have no other Redeemer but Thee. By the prayers of Thy Mother may we be forgiven our trespasses and may the faithful departed be pardoned that have put their trust in Thee.

Censing

Let us cry out to the Lord at the offering of incense!
Let our prayer arise before Thee as the incense and the lifting up of our hands as the evening sacrifice.
BY THIS incense, O Lord, may Thy will be satisfied. May Thy Mother and Thy servants be honored by it and the faithful departed be pardoned who have put their trust in Thee, Our Lord and God unto the Aeon of aeons.
Amen.

in both worlds unto the Aeon of aeons. Amen.

Theotokion of St John of Damascus

Truly it is right to praise her,
Bearer of our God and King;
She, the evervirgin mother
Who to us the Christ did bring.

She, more worthy than the cherubs,
Glorious more than seraphim;
She, that bore the Word eternal;
Let us all her praises sing.

Supplication of Mar Ephraim

O Lord and Master of my life,
Keep me from sloth and prying,
From hollow pride and empty chatter -
From hollow pride and empty chatter.

Grant unto me instead the grace
Of purity and humility,
Of patience and neighborly love -
Of patience and neighborly love.

O Lord and King and Giver of grace,
Keep me aware of my own sin
So I shall not think ill of my neighbor.
And blessed be Thou forever -
And blessed be Thou forever.

The Dismissal of the Supplication

O PURE and glorious one that gave birth to God the Word, Who in His Holy of Holies is above all the saints, by thy prayers may He save us from all wrath, danger and necessity and from intolerable temptation. Hear the cry of them that entreat thee, for thou art the treasure of all good things and the fountain of all blessings and will not reject the requests of those who beseech thee. O Blessed Virgin Mary, offer petition on our behalf to thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, that He may strengthen our weakness, heal our sickness, blot out our offenses, sanctify our souls, purify our minds, cleanse our impulses, straighten our paths, make steadfast our steps, repay our debts, forgive our shortcomings, support our elders, keep our youth and adorn our children with His fear. By thine intercession, may those who are near live at ease, and those who are far off return in peace to their homes. By thy prayers, may the virtuous women be protected under the wings of
thy holiness, may the faithful departed be absolved and the Church and her children lead a life of harmony, love and faith. May those who have offered this supplication in thine honor and who stand in the presence of thy holiness, be delivered from the wickedness of the enemy both visible and invisible, and by the virtue of thy prayers, may we who are weak and sinful, together with all the priests and the faithful, live a life of peace and tranquility.
Amen.
