Doxstader at Fort Niagara
Research contributed by Todd Schnitzer from information provided by Old Fort Niagara
"The records at Old Fort Niagara seem to indicate that the company
of men under the command of John Dockstader were just a small part
of a larger orginazation called Butler's Rangers and commanded by
Major John Butler. Therefore the most complete or historically
accurate name of Doxstader's Co. of Loyalists would be
'John Dockstader's Co. of Butler's Rangers.'
There are several small references to Doxstader (AKA: Dockstader,
Docksteder, or Dochsteder) in our files. These may not be the true
Doxstader. There are least two different people in the following references.
Note that one Lt. Docksteder died in November of 1781, while references
to Lt. Docksteder also appear in 1782 and 1783.
