Romeo Dallaire: A Person of Faith

Romeo Dallaire was the former head of the U.N. Peacekeeping Force in Rwanda. He was supposed to end the conflict between the Tutsis and Hutus. The Hutus have been in control of the government since the 1960's and have trouble with the Tutsis ever since. The Hutus, the majority, were now getting ready to kill all the Tutsis they could. This is where the canadian Romeo Dallaire steps in. His mission was to make sure there is peace in Rwanda.

Good YouTube video on the subject
Above was a source used in making this website.

Unfortuantley the peace agreement failed and the Hutus started massacuring the Tutsis. But Romeo held strong and talked to over 2000 peacekeepers pleading them to help him in this genocide . Romeo did all he could do to stop this. He was a person of faith trusting and believing that someone would help him and save hundreds thousands of lives. Even after 5/6 of his force left he was strong and did not back down or leave. But the Hutus were too much for his for of 500 men to take care of. So he continued trying to find help from other countries but no one would answer the call. Many said he failed, but no one else has ever been in his situation before. He did all that he could and still feels bad to this day.

According to this website, "Gen. Romeo Dallaire, frustrated, and disheartened by the U.N.'s passive attitude, nonetheless stood for his beliefs, repeatedly confronting his superiors who did nothing to prevent the horrific events from unfolding." Romeo was a person of faith for trying to save 800,000 innocent lives, when most men would leave and back down. He stood up for what was right and used all of mind, body and soul to help the Tutsis. His courage also saved innocent live to. For these reasons Romeo Dallaire was a person of faith.
