The Five Kingdoms

Monerans

  • Unicellular
  • Hereditary material is not enclosed in the nucleus of the cell
  • Two caegories
    -autotrophs (produce own food)
    -heterotrophes (cannot produce own food)

    Protists

  • Unicellular (have a nucleus - controls functions of the cell and contains hereditary material)
  • Capable of animal-like movement, but has plant-like characteristics
  • Green in color (can use the light for energy)

    Fungi

  • Multicellular organisms
  • Examples
    -mushrooms
    -molds on leftover foods left in the fridge
    -mildew in the basement
  • Difference from plants
    -cell arrangement
    -cell wall
    -cannot use energy to make their own food

    Plants

  • Multicellular
  • Autotrophs

    Animals

  • Multicellular
  • Heterotrophs
