These are the keypoints for each of the stations...

Station 1

  • Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathies = Mad Cow
  • Stephen Churchill is Patient Zero
  • Kuru is a similar disease to Mad Cow that was transmitted through cannibalism
  • Cows are believed to contract Mad Cow the same way the people contracted Kuru!
    -- Cattle were being feed the dead remains of other cattle and sheep

  • Epidemiology – The Study of how and why diseases are distributed in a population.
  • Dr. John Snow = Father of Epidemiology
    -- He stopped the spread of cholera by removing the town shared water supply
  • Epidemiology is not an easy task considering the large population and the amount of interactions!

  • Smallpox - Edward Jenner vaccine in 1798
  • Ebola
    -- Three different strands

  • How are viruses spread from one person to another?

    -- How a disease spreads from one person to another starting with patient zero!

    Station 7
  • Biological Agents are destroyed by sunlight
  • The Biological Weapons Convention
    -- Established in 1972
    -- Declared the US, Russia, and Great Britain as depository states
  • Russia Violated the treaty!
  • Anthrax is NOT an efficient bioweapon
    -- Not communicable

    Station 8
  • Vaccine – Taken before to prevent the disease!
  • Cure – After you already have the disease!
