Queen Elizabeth ruled England during Shakespearian times. These times were known as the Elizabeth era. At this time Enland was the strongest nation of the world. Shakespeare was inspired by london due to its magnificent surroundings. In England, before queen Elizabeth ruled, just about everybody was roman catholic. But the ruler at that time, King Henry VIII, didn't agree with that. He decided to take it to the pope. Henry ended up creating his own church because he couldn't compromise with the pope. When queen Elizabeth took the throne, she supported king Hnery's religion. She Punished any one who was still catholic. Shakespeare decided to not apply hos opinion to any of his plays, because of all of this religion controversey. Even with all this, Shakespeare still did have religion in his plays. he was smart enoughm to know what he would get in trouble for. Fashion was as big in those times as it is in todays times. The better of a dress that a woman wore, marked her wealth and importance. Cloths that royalty wore was simple and plain. Later they wanted to express there wealth and power through attire. Girls started to wear tighter cloths and gold neklaces. Men wore vests called Jerkins. Much like todays young groups, men liked to wear baggy pants, but they thaught they could do better. They started to base their cloths around lether. They wore leather shoes, leather pants, and leather Jackets. The lower class, the peasents, wore anything they could find on the streets, or trade with eachother. |
