The Quad 22
FM, or
FM1, is an inherently simple unit, with only
one control - the tuning
dial. There is no wave band selection as the
FM1 only receives FM
signals, and it's only a mono
receiver. This is because at the time
of manufacture, broadcasters were unsure of
the multiplex decoder technologies associated
with FM stereo broadcasts
- so Quad played safe for once... |
The design complements that
of the Control unit, and true to expectations,
the whole perspex front dial,
lights up. |
 |
 |
The tuner is powered
from the control unit - a 4-way
plug carrying the necessary voltages.
The remaining connections being the (mono
phono) signal output, and an RF
aeriel socket - all located on the side
of the unit. |
The FM1 has two
tuning indicators as opposed tp the usual one
- another Quad innovation. The unit is only
properly in-tune when both
indicators light at full
strength. The dimmer light indicates
which direction you need to turn
the dial in order to gain a perfect signal. |
