Kazem finally started walking!! These weren't his VERY FIRST steps, but these were SOME of his first steps! This was the day he really started walking! The previous week, he had done two or three tiny steps between things, but Feb 1 was when he started going across "open space."

Kazem at 2 months (26 Jan 2004).
The pregnancy was considered "High Risk" due to Ren's diabetes and, to a lesser extent, her age. There were several ultrasounds to see how Kazem was developing, and we were told repeatedly that he was "macrosomic" and was going to be a BIG baby.
At his 33 week ultrasound (October 30, 2003), Kazem supposedly weighed approximately six pounds fifteen ounces (two ounces more than his actual birthweight 26 days later)! The doctors talked about inducing at 36 or 37 weeks, in order to avoid having a 10-pound baby.
There was an amniocentesis test on November 18, to check for lung maturity. Test results showed that his lungs were ready, so the first round of inducing was started that day! But after 24 hours, there wasn't enough (or any) progression, though - no labor, no dilation, just massive cramps!! So Ren and Jalil were sent home that day.
Inducement was started again on 24 November, with the Pitocin drip. Again there wasn't much progression, although this time there was real labor. After his heart rate dropped a few times during contractions, Kazem was finally delivered via c-section at 7:30 a.m. exactly, on Tuesday the 25th.
Six pounds, 13 ounces. Perfectly normal weight, not at all macrosomic! Sigh. Doesn't someone owe us a couple pounds of baby??
