The Rev. Layton Beets, 62, of Clinton, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was founder and pastor of Gospel Outreach Baptist Church as well as the Gospel Outreach radio broadcast on WYSH.
A native of Clinton, he retired after working as a self-employed carpenter and later enjoyed driving a school bus for Parker Transportation in Anderson County. He was a member of the Oddfellows and the Fraternal Order of Police. Layton had a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by: parents, Moss L. and Nina E. Beets; brothers, Kenneth and Charles Beets.
He is survived by: wife, Joyce Spears Beets of Clinton; daughters, Teresa Goddard of Kingston, Debbie Rollin of Smyrna, Rhonda Kinlaw of Knoxville, Katrina Beets of Chattanooga; son, David Beets of Clinton; sisters, Martha Beets and Bobbie Evans, both of Clinton, Kaye Bice of Knoxville, Joyce Beets of Corryton; brothers, Wayne Beets, the Rev. Moss Beets, J.D. Beets and Dennis Beets, all of Clinton; mother and father-in-law, Gilbert and Mildred Spears of Lake City; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; several sisters and brother-in-laws and a host of other relatives and friends.
The gamily received friends 6-8 pm Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001 with the service following in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Charlie Marlow, the Rev. Paul Hatmaker, the Rev. Homer Pruitt and the Rev. Jimmy Ault officiating.
Interment was 11 am Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001 at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton. Pallbearers were James Beets, Jerry Beets, Larry Beets, Rick Carroll, Terry Evans and Tim Fritts.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City in charge of arrangements.
