Bertha Shelton Banks




Bertha Shelton Banks, age 95, of Lake City passed away Sunday Jan 21, 2001 at Lake City Health Care Center.

She was born May 24, 1905 in Morgan County.

Bertha was a retired teacher of the Anderson County School System for 42 years teaching at Briceville and Lake City. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church where she was Sunday school teacher for the Grace Class for many years. Bertha was active in all church activities until her health failed. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge, Keen Club and Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by: parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Shelton; husband, Ulys Banks; sisters, Ruth Shelton Weaver, Ruby Sharp, Mae Dabney; brother, Junior Shelton.

Survivors: sisters, Virginia Foust of Lake City, Pauline Sanders of Michigan; nephews, Joe Dabney of Arkansas, Larry Sanders of Michigan; niece, Linda Hammer of Knoxville; a host of great-grandnieces and nephews and many friends.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001 at Main Street Baptist Church. Funeral service will be 8 pm Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001 at Main Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Martin officiating.

Interment will 11 am Thursday Jan. 25, 2001 at Clinch River Cemetery, Lake City.
