Here are instructions for making a candle holder out of ordinary tin cans.
1. Find a tin can the right diameter for the holder you want to make. Cat food cans or small fruit cans are a good size.
2. Remove the label and top from the can and clean it thoroughly. Let dry.
3. If you want, you can paint it (flame-resistant paint) or cover it with heat-resistant paper - only on the outside, leaving a 1/4 to 1/2 inch border at the top.
4. Get a small tack and glue it into the center of the bottom of the can, with the pointy side facing up. (Careful!)
5. Put in your candle (tea lights work nicely, as do small candles) so that the tack sticks into the bottom of the candle.
6. Light and enjoy.
7. You can glue on decorations or draw on the outside if you like.
8. This can make a nice gift. Make a collection with cans and candles of different sizes and heights. For short cans with big candles, you may need a bigger tack.
9. Light your candles!
