Candles - old candles
don't have to die out. Reuse them and make your own!
1. Melt the wax on the stove in an old pot or disposable aluminum
tray (like a pie tray)
2. You can combine colors, add a couple drops of color, etc.
3. Tie a wick to a small horizontal stick or bar and place over a glass, porcelain, or other
heat-resistant material jar or cup. You can also glue the wick to the bottom
of the jar and hold it up straight
4. Pour the candle wax into the jar. You can include dried flowers, doodads, pieces of things
for decoration that will show through the wax as well
5. Let the candle solidify and use it as is or loosen from the jar gently by heating
or with a knife
6. The finished candle can also be decorated with photos, flowers, etc. and then
simply brush on a coat of wax to seal
To make your own wicks: Take a thin rope or cotton balls, and rub between your palsm until they are
thin and firm. String can also be twisted together. Then dip in melted wax almost up to the top and
let it harden. Cut to size.
Other candle ideas:
1. Shave the candle with a knife or melt just a bit and grate it. You can use the shavings
with a wick as a candle!
2. Refill tea-light holders with wicks and wax.
3. Make small beads of wax by molding it in your palms once it has cooled a bit - be careful,
it could be hot!
4. Try layering different colors of wax on top of one another in a tall, clear glass jar.
You can glue a photo or picture or flower to the inside of the jar permanently before you
pour the wax
