Special crafts for
special people - sometimes with disabilities, children and adults
can't do the tasks they otherwise could. Fortunately, there are a
number of fun crafts to do even when you have trouble with your
eyes, hearing, hands or more. Let us know of any others you come up
with and you can really fill a person's day and heart.
1. making cards - they can be folded and decorated with pressed flowers from
the garden - just hpress them in a phone book for a week and then
carefully lift them and stick them on cards. It's fun and can inspire a
lot of creativity. If you have some hidden
drawing or painting talent use it!
2. Along with that idea is a craft that kids
in other countries do - it takes patience but is BEAUTIFUL. they use
a needle and thread to create designs on cardpaper. You draw a design on
cardpaper, then punch holes all along with a pin so you have a perforated
design. The thread is knotted at one end and you just "sew" through to
create designs that come from one end of the design to the other. You can
also use different colors so the threads crisscross - it's a lot of fun to
create a beautiful design. Since you can feel the holes, it's easier to
draw the needle through. With larger holes there's also plastic needles so
you won't poke yourself.
3. If that is not enough there are also the pattern-stitching and embroidery
or cross-stitch kits which are lovely. A simple design can be traced on
cloth and the stitched over - even fusible web and a cool iron
can be used to adhere fabrics.
4. take items around the house that are going to be
thrown away and try to think of ideas of what to do with them. For
example, you can use old wrapping paper to cover boxes to make
ready-to-use gift boxes or bags, or make paper picture frames or cover
toilet paper rolls to use as pencil holders.
