Here are instructions for making your own cards.
1. Take a blank sheet of paper, preferably thick, like cardpaper.
2. To make a normal card, fold in half. You can draw on the front and write a message inside. You can use the card both vertically and horizontally.
3. Another fold is to fold it in thirds. Fold the right third in, and then the left third on top of it. That way there are two places to put inside messages. You can also use the right flap as a window (cut out the middle) for displaying pictures or part of the message or picture inside.
4. Another fold is to fold zigzag or into a pleat. Fold into thirds but with the middle folded back and the back folded forward. You can vary how wide each part is and show or not show part of the back flap.
5. Another fold is to fold in a pleat from both sides, so that both the left and the right are showing.
6. Decorate the front of your cards with glued on dried flowers, shapes cut out of colored paper, magazine pictures, photographs, etc.
7. To make pop-up cards, fold a piece of paper in half. Cut two slits across the fold, the same length. Pull the little strip of paper out (so that its fold is now inside the card). When you open the sheet of paper, a little folded v should pop out at you. You can vary the shapes to make hearts, multiple steps, and whole drawings inside. Glue a piece of paper on the back so that you have a whole front and back on your card.
8. To make twist-aways, draw a design, like a tree. Draw the right half of the tree on the card, then draw the left half slightly father up or farther down (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch offset, along the same vertical line). Cut along the outlines. Now you have a tree such that if you push it or pull it, it will twist out of the card and hold its shape. Try also combintions of horizontal and vertical twist-outs for cool effects.
9. For envelopes, simply fold decorative paper and glue so there is an extra flap at the top. Measure for the width and height of the card plus 1/2 inch on each side (top, bottom, and sides). Glue, insert your card, address it, glue the flap, and send your greeting on its way!
