To make the gingerbread:
GINGERBREAD DOUGH
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 cup margarine, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup light molasses
1/2 cup water
Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. In a large mixing bowl, beat
margarine and sugar until pale and fluffy. Beat in molasses. Stir in
water. Stir in flour mixture. If dough gets too stiff, use your hands.
Separate dough into four balls. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 2
to 3 hours. Using a lightly floured roiling pin, roll out dough on a
lightly floured surface.
To make ornaments:
1. Use small cookie cutters or a blunt knife to cut out patterns that can be used as pendants.
2. Poke holes in the pendants (make sure they are completely open holes so they don't close up when you bake).
3. To make beads, roll pieces into ovals or small rounds, then put on a thin metal skewer. Or, you can poke them with a toothpick.
4. Place everything on a baking tray.
5. Preheat oven to 350[degrees]F and bake for
8 to 10 minutes. Cool completely or overnight on a flat cooling rack,
so cookies are very hard.
6. String the beads on a string or ribbon, and wear a necklace.
7. To make earrings, thread a loop of string through and attach to a earring hook. For pins, glue a safety pin on the back.
8. This can also be used to make garlands for decorations. Completely edible!
