Here are instructions for making a pretty fan out of cardboard or old popsicle sticks.
To make the fan:
1. collect 12-16 popsicle sticks and clean them, or cut pieces of cardboard the shape of popsicle sticks
2. use markers or paint to decorate them. Ideas include peacock feathers, oriental designs. To make a continuous fan pattern, fan them out (held together at the bottom), and decorate while keeping the sticks that way
3. stack the sticks in a pile so that they are all lined up
4. use a drill or hammer and nail to make small holes in all. Be sure to do it enough away from the edges to prevent the stick from splitting. If you don't have a drill or unable to do this, use cardboard and a small hole-puncher instead (or just use scissors to poke the holes).
5. (optional) cut out and decorate a front piece. This can be the head and body of a peacock, a mini fan, or any other design
6. Use a brad (has a knob on one side and two wings on the other, like on manila envelopes) to fasten all the sticks together, with the decorative piece in front
7. Make sure the fastener is tight, then fan out your fan.
8. Enjoy the cool breeze!
