Here are instructions for doing decoupage. It's a simple process and can beautify your entire home.
1. Find pretty pictures you would like to use on your card or box or furniture. You can cut them from magazines (very close, with as little edging as you would like), or draw them yourself with markers that won't run in water.
2. Test the picture (or another piece from the same magazine) in a corner or a part that won't be seen for runniness. The color shouldn't bleed when you sweep a wet finger across it. If it does, test the material with this process on something else first (like an old sheet of paper) - then if it looks okay, go ahead and do the real thing.
3. Spread newspaper on the floor.
4. Dilute white glue (like Elmer's) in a bowl with a little water. Mix it well.
5. Take a brush and dip it in the glue, then shake off excess (don't splatter!). Sweep across the surface of the picture and the surface where you want to put the picture.
6. Place the picture on the surface (the box or card or furniture) and press down and smoothe it out to get rid of air bubbles.
7. Dip the bruss in again and brush the glue on top of and around the picture.
8. Put your work aside to dry for several hours. You can add another coat later if you like. For added shine, a spray clear coat (polyurethane) works well.
9. Show off to all your friends! Have fun!
You can cover whole boxes, or just the front of a greeting card. Use it also to decorate headborads of beds, lunchboxes, doors, drawers, and even shoes. You can also use this to cover things like walls, floors, chairs, dressers, and tops of desks - but prep the surface first with some prepping medium (ask your hardware store). For floors, cover with several (seven is good) coats of polyurethane or sealant.
