Step One, Hi! Welcome to our Help Page! The first step in almost anything is to
download the program first. If you are on Windows 95, you
can get the 32 bit version here. If you are windows 3.1 you can also get
the 16 bit version here. It also helps to go to the mIRC Install
and Setup homepage located at:
Step two, now that you have the program....now what? Well, the nice thing
about the new version of mIRC is that it is a self-extracting program and you do not
need to unzip. However, if you have the older versions of mIRC, you will
need to unzip the program.
Once you've downloaded the program, you need to find out where you
downloaded it to. So look in file manager if you are on Windows 3.1 or
explorer if you are on Windows 95 and look for a file called mirc46s.exe (16
Bit) or mirc46t.exe (32 Bit).
Once you have found it, all you need to do is double click the file
and start the installation process. If you are not familiar or very comfortable with
windows or computers, it is suggested that you just let it install to its default settings
and locations.
If you want the installer to add a mIRC program group to windows and set up
the mIRC icons, keep the "Add icons" option selected. Select 'OK' and you're done! The
installer will take care of all the work.
Setting Up mIRC
Step 3, now you have the icon and you have the program. This is for people
that have a ppp connection with their internet provider. If you are using MSN or
Compuserve or Netcom or AOL, go to:
For the rest of you, just double click the icon [Image] if you are on win 3.1
and if you are on win95, Click start programs and mIRC and open up the program. Once it's
opened, it will automatically bring up a dialog box for you to fill out first.
Just look at the picture and fill in the blanks. It is advisable that you
do not put in your real name. Fill in your e-mail address and give yourself
a nickname and an alternate nickname in case the first one you chose is
already taken.
Pick a server that you would like to connect to. Remember
that Undernet and Dalnet and Efnet are different kinds of servers and
channels and nicknames are not in all of the above. For this purpose. If
you are looking for #OncoChat, the main channel is on Undernet, but can
also be found on Dalnet, and Efnet. More users and regulars of the channels are
however located on the Undernet Servers.
Next thing is to pick local info and make sure you click on IP Address and
leave the Local Host and IP Address blank. mIRC will automatically fill in
these blanks for you.
Next, tab to the Identd and enable the Identd server and put in your user
id and leave everything else to default. Once you're done click OK and
you're mIRC is now configured.
<
Now Just click the yellow lightning icon and let it connect to a server. If
you are looking for Undernet, each server has Undernet Dalnet Efnet before the
server so you will know which servers you are connecting to. By the way,
make sure you dial into your internet service provider first.
Once Your Connected
Step 4, once you have connected, look on the status line, just type /join #channel whatever
channel you would like to join. Once you have joined a channel, you will get another window
that will show the channel's name in there and the people that are in the channel.
Last Step ;)
Last step, now you've found us...only thing to do now is type HI!! and start
typing away!! Once you get inside the channel, there are usually people that are long time
regulars that will help you and assist you in working your way around mIRC. We hope to see
you Online!
