My Home
My home is located just 30 minutes from the foot of Pikes Peak, on 5 quiet acres, just 8 miles east of Colorado Springs Colorado. I love mountain hiking, and have hiked to the top of Pikes Peak (14,110'). My dear friend Cheryl and I have made this a, once a year adventure.
I live in a modest 3 bedroom ranch with a big country kitchen. This is the gathering place to sit, and have a cup of coffee, with friends old and new, and watch the puppies run around. The puppies are whelped in the laundry room just off the kitchen. The laundry room at times can be very active with the noise of the washer and dryer going. It also has a back door to the fenced yard in which all the dogs and cats in the house are in and out of constantly. Like little kids they can't make up their minds.
There are several out buildings and a barn to accommodate horses and cows which I no longer have. This was during the time when the kids were active in 4-H and riding clubs and ect. The kids have all grown up and are out on their own. (Scary huh). During this time, I was also actively showing Appaloosa Horses on the APHA circuits. This type of competition is not only very demanding but helped me to complement and enhance the skills of which I would later use to go into the avenue of showing dogs. Showing horses had not only given me an acute understanding of the ups and downs of winning and losing but also enabled me to realize the financial costs that are involved.
My emphasis has always been to show first, with breeding as the goal to produce my next champion. It is my main goal to uphold and contribute to the quality of this wonderful breed. My deep love of the breed remains behind all of my accomplishments and endeavors. I feel that a high degree of intelligence, combined with proper conformation and movement are extremely important attributes to strive for. I am most fortunate to own a breed that is so intelligent and versatile.
My first show sheltie I obtained from the late Barbara Hagan Reisburg. She went "OVERSIZE" and that first show prospect was what began my history. But this in no way deterred me from entering her at matches in obedience and attending my first National Specialty in Omaha Neb. and coming home with a third place and a qualifying score in Obedience.
From that point on I was "hooked". Meeting fine people like yourselves is what keeps me so involved. I have just begun my second term as President of the Centennial Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Denver. I have met and made many friends through my love of Shelties. I may meet you someday at a dog show and in so doing hope to make another new friend. See you at the Shows!!!
