Next we add in yet another layer of shadows (I generally use four or 5 layers of shadows, it makes the horses body structure stand out more, feel free to experiment in how you do this.). Once again it contours to the other shadows, and is done to make leg structure stand out more. |

The fourth layer of shadows has the least amount on it, it is generally used to add more to the hind legs structure, and to darken the nostrils and ears. |

Now that I have the shadows complete I go in and add in the highlights, at the neck, withers, barrel, and rump. As you can see I basically just scribble them in LOL. When I want the face to stand out more then it is, I will add some highlights to it as well, as seen in the picture. |

Next I merge all my base color layers together then blur them. In adobe photoshop this is done most easily with the Gaussian Blur. Currently I do not know how this can be done in other applications, I will try to figure that out ASPA so I can put that information here. |

Now its time to clean up this part of your image. Switch to your eraser tool and rub out anything that isn't within the line art, and the color that is in the eyes and hooves. I generally start by zooming in and going around the line art and making a gap so I can go hog wild on the excess not touching the needed color lol. The finished coat should look something like what you see below. |
