Chapter 4

The next morning Lance awoke to the smell of freshly made coffee and some cinnamon rolls. He glanced on the clock on the nightstand next to the bed. It read 7:53. He knew he should get and help the person downstairs even though his body told him to stay in bed and enjoy the day off.  He slowly sat up and stretched. Lance listened carefully as he got out of bed and pulled a t-shirt on. He heard a soft, sweet voice singing a song in the country kitchen below the loft.

“When I found you I found the closest thing to heaven That’s in you I found the deepest love I knew I believe, yes its true I found myself when I found you I believe for every door that’s closing For every heartbreak there’s hope for something new From the ashes right, I glimpse a paradise It still flickered in your eyes.” The voice sang as Lance made his way down the stairs. “A life unfolds No one knows I found love once Just a tingling of the skin I felt so alone, all alone More than you could ever know You share deeper love Sweet love When I found you I found the closest thing to heaven I found the deepest love I know I found the closest thing to heaven I found myself.” The voice sang as Lance stopped in the doorway. The voice that had lured him downstairs came from Fiona.

“ Morning Lance.” Ford said as he walked into the kitchen.

“ Morning Ford.” Lance said as he walked slowly in the kitchen. He could tell that Fiona was blushing even though she wasn’t facing him. “ Morning Fiona.” He said as he walked over to where she was and kissed the top of her head.

“ Morning.” Fiona said as she took a few coffee cups out of the cupboard and carefully set them on the counter in front of the freshly brewed pot of coffee.

“ Did you sleep well?” Lance asked as he reached for the pot of coffee but Fiona slapped his hand. “ You don’t have to get I can do it.” He said as he reached again only to have her repeat her action again.

“Just sit down.” Fiona said as she poured 2 cups of coffee and carried them carefully to the table. “ I slept fine thanks for asking.” She said as she set the coffee in front of the two men, who with out a doubt hadn’t slept as well as she had. “ How about you?” She asked with a small smile.

As Fiona, Lance and Ford talked downstairs Diane and Jim sat in their comfy over stuffed bed that Lance had bought them and talked.

“I think I know why Fiona is here.” Diane said to Jim as they flipped on the TV and began to watch the morning news.

“Why honey?” Jim asked as he took his wife’s hand into his as she began to tell him what she knew and what she thought.

“ I can’t believe this. If it’s true it will give us 2 grandbabies so soon.” Jim said with a smile as he prayed what his wife told him was true.

“Morning Stace. How you feeling?” Fiona asked Stacey as she entered the kitchen.

“Please tell me this sickness ends soon.” Stacey said as she sat down next to Ford at the table and put her head down. “ Its gonna kill me soon.” She said as Lance looked at her and Ford.

“What do you mean?” Lance asked unsure by what they meant.

“Lance, Ford and I are having a baby.” Stacey said as she lifted her head up off the table. “ Some time in the spring or early summer.” She said with a smile as Ford put his arm around her shoulders.

“That’s great.” Lance said happy for Stacey and Ford. It would only be time until he heard the same news but from Fiona.

Fiona knew she had to tell him but when? When would be right? She wanted to tell him soon so he could decided if he wanted to be a part of her and the baby’s life. What if he didn’t want to? Would his family be open to it? She didn’t know but she’d find out soon enough.
