Chapter 3 A few hours later Lance had finished up the things he needed to finish. He went downstairs and looked for Fiona but couldn’t find her. He finally peeked outside on the front porch and found her. She was sitting on the porch swing reading a book. Lance stood a few feet away and watched her. He watched as softly sighed as she finally set the book down on her lap and looked up. “Do you need something?” Fiona said as she looked at Lance but not straight in the eye or even close to them for that fact. “ Uh just to talk.” Lance said as he walked towards the swing. He watched, as firefly’s lit up the sky along with the Christmas lights that decorated the small Mississippi farm. “ If you’re not busy.” He said as he sat down on the swing next to his old friend. “Not at all. I was helping you’re mom but she made come out here and rest.” Fiona as informed him as he looked at the book she had been reading. It was a baby name book that claimed to hold over 100,000 different names. “She’s probably right.” Lance said as some crickets began to chirp. “ So how have you been?” he asked. “ Pretty good.” Fiona replied as she picked up her book again and began to skim through the names. “What brings you up here?” Lance asked curiously as his cell phone rang. He looked down at it and saw it was Jessica. “ I should take this.” He said as he flipped open the phone and began to talk into. “ I’ll be back.” He said as he got up and walked off. “Why can’t I just say what I need to say and get it over with?” Fiona said out loud to herself as she rubbed her ever-growing stomach. “ Did you say something Fiona?” Ford asked as he walked up the porch stairs. He had gone up to the store to pick up some Ice cream for Fiona and Stacey. “Just talking to myself.” Fiona said as she continued to rub her stomach much to her surprise the baby started kicking. “Stace I got your ice cream.” Ford called through the screen door of the house. “ It’s gonna melt if you don’t get out here.” He said as he walked towards Fiona and sat down next to her. ~*~*~*~ “Baby I know you miss me but you have to finish up your album before you can come.” Lance said into his phone as he tried to calm Jessica down. It was there first night since they met up in the club they’d been apart. It was really hard for her to deal with. “ But I want to see you now.” Jessica pleaded as she packed her bag. She didn’t care what Lance had to say she was going to fly down first thing in the morning and stay with him and his family. She had worked with her assistant and to rework her schedule so she could do so. “Baby I want to see you now to but we both know it’s not possible.” Lance said as Jessica started pleading and crying more. He blocked her out and was now listening to Stacey, Ford and Fiona joking, talking and laughing out on the porch. He wished he could be there with them but instead he was on the phone with Jessica. “ Look Baby I’ll call you first thing in the morning Ok?” he said about 5 minutes later. “I guess.” Jessica said as she sniffled. “ I love you.” She said as she put her lips together and kissed the phone receiver. “I love you too baby.” Lance said as he filed shut his cell phone and finally made his way back to Fiona. ~*~*~*~*~* Lance hated to barge right into what Fiona, Stacey and Ford had so he sat in the kitchen and listened to him it wasn’t until his mom walked in and place her hand on his shoulder did he realize he had been sitting there for a while. “You ok?” Diane asked as she poured 2 cups of coffee for herself and Lance. “I’m not sure.” Lance replied as Diane put a Powder blue coffee cup in front of him. “What do you mean?” Diane asked as she sat down and sipped from Copper coffee cup. “Something about Fiona.” Lance replied as he took a small sip of coffee. “ She seems so familiar but then in a way she doesn’t.” he said. “I know what you mean.” Diane replied as ran her finger along the edge of her cup. “No you don’t mom.” Lance said as he set the coffee cup down and began to tell his mother the story of what he could remember from 7 months ago. His mother was shocked and disappointed of course but quickly forgave her first born and only son. After all everyone made mistakes. ~*~*~*~ A few hours later Ford and Stacey came into the house. They tipped toed in quietly in fear they’d wake Diane and Jim. They were startled as they walked through the living and found Lance sitting on the couch looking at a picture. It was picture of him and Fiona. It was taken right before she had moved. He was wearing a plaid button up short and jean shorts and she was a t-shirt and a pair of cut off jeans. Lance or James what he was called at the time had dark hair the same color as Fiona’s. “You ok?” Stacey asked her brother. “Yeah fine.” Lance replied startled. “ Where’s Fiona at?” he asked a she looked around. Surely she hadn’t come in. He hadn’t heard her or seen her and he’d been sitting on the couch for the past hour. “ She fell asleep on the porch.” Stacey replied. “ Ford’s a wimp he doesn’t want to pick her up. He’s afraid he’ll drop her.” She repleid as Lance stood up. “I’ll get her then.” Lance replied as he walked through the living room and the kitchen to the porch. He careful took the book she was reading and set it on the chair next to the swing. He then careful picked her up. He was holding her so her legs were off to the side and her head rested on his shoulder. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he carried her to the door. It was then Ford appeared once again and opened the door for Lance. He carefully carried her though the house. He felt her stir a few times but she didn’t awaken. He carefully carried her up the stairs to his room, where she had been staying for the past week and possibly more. He walked into the room and set her on the bed. He grabbed the quilt that laid at the end of the bed and cover her with it. She stirred once again so Lance did what he did best and sung to her. He sung a song that seemed right for the moment. See the thing about you, that caught my eye, Is the same thing that makes me change, my mind. Kinda hard to explain, but girl, I'll try. You need to sit down, this may take a while. You see, she sorta looks, just like you. She even smiles, just the way you do. So innocent, she seemed, but I was schooled I'm reminded when I look at you, but, You remind of a girl, that I once knew. See her face whenever I, I look at you. You won't believe all of the things that she put me through. This is why I just can't get with you. Thought that she was the one for me, Til I found out she was on her dream, Oh, she was sexing everyone, but me. This is why we could never be. You remind of a girl, that I once knew. See her face whenever I, I look at you. You won't believe all of the things that she put me through. This is why I just can't get with you. I know it's so unfair to you, But I'd be lingering the rest to you, Wish I knew, wish I knew how to separate the two You remind me, whoa... You remind of a girl, that I once knew. See her face whenever I, I look at you. You won't believe all of the things that she put me through. This is why I just can't get with you. ~U Remind me- Usher “ Night Fiona.” Lance whispered a few seconds after he stopped singing. He gently kissed her forehead as he pulled the blankets up to her chin. Story Index |
