Chapter 2

The week had flown by for Lance. He was now standing in front of the airport terminal telling Jessica good bye. It would be a few weeks until he'd see her again.

"I'll miss you baby." Jessica cooed as she leaned in and kissed Lance.

"I'll miss you more." Lance said as he kissed her back. " But it's only a few weeks." He said as he reminded her.

"Are you sure your family will like me?" Jessica asked as the attendant called for a few more rows on Lance's flight.

" Of course they will." Lance said as he kissed her forehead. " I've got to go, I'll call you when I get there ok?" he said as he looked into her playful brown eyes.

"Ok." Jessica said as she gave him one final kiss and he was on his way.

A few hours later the plane landed in Mississippi. Lance was happy to be to see his family, his friends and Fiona but in the long run he feared he'd miss Jessica.

"Lance dear over here." Diane called as she and woman waved at Lance.

The woman looked so familiar. She had long blonde hair that was pulled back in a single braid. He eyes twinkled as she smiled at Lance. The smile like the woman looked so familiar. Lance thought of where he saw this woman before but shrugged it off as he walked towards his mother.

" Welcome home dear." Diane said as she embraced her son in a hug. " We missed you so much." She said as Lance continued to look at the other woman. From the looks of things she was about 6 or 7 months pregnant. The smile she had as Lance got off the plane had faded and was now a look of disappointment. Something Lance didn't expect.

"Hi James." The woman said with a soft voice as Lance and Diane's hug ended.

"Fiona is that you?" Lance asked as he looked at her.

" The one and only." Fiona said as she rubbed her stomach.

" I can't believe it." Lance said, as he looked her up and down. Her dark brown hair was now blonde and her pretty blue eyes were now green.

" Well believe it." Fiona said as Diane led them away from the terminal and to her car.

A short time later they arrived at Diane and Jim's Place. It looked different to Lance from the last time he had been there. It was decorated for the holidays that were quickly approaching. That reminded Lance he needed to go to town if he could and do some shopping.

" Lance Oh my gosh." Stacey cried out as she ran onto the front porch of the house. She threw her arms around her brother she missed so dearly. She knew Ford was inside pacing around the kitchen waiting for Lance. He was nervous about telling Lance the news. He was unsure how Lance would take it. " It's been forever and day since I've seen you." She said as she let out of the embrace.

" You look great."  Lance said as he finally made his way into the hose. It smelled just like mothers cooking.

"Mom and I started making your favorite." Stacey said as Lance made his way towards the stove where the food was cooking. " Chicken, fried potatoes, Mom's famous Cornbread biscuits, and some Apple Crisp for dessert." Stacey said as Jim Bass made his way into the house.

" Welcome home son." Jim said as he walked to the sink and began to wash the dirt and grain off his hands. " How does it feel to me home at last?" he asked his son who has been away from home for more the several months

" Great. It's a long needed break." Lance said as eh walked past Ford and Stacey who were seated around the table. " I think I'm going to head to my room if that's ok?" he asked his mother.

"I was just going to tell you. Fiona is staying in your room." Diane replied as she threw some spices on the potatoes. " But you can stay in the Loft if you like." She said as Fiona left out a soft sigh.

"I can move up there if you'd like." Fiona said shyly.

"No the loft is fine for me." Lance replied with a smile as walked out of the room with his cell phone is hand. He had to call Jessica like he planned. " We'll talk later ok." He called back into he kitchen as he reached the stairs.

" He'll come around dear. I know he will." Diane said as she comforted Fiona. " He's just got his head stuck in the clouds right now." She said as Fiona let out another soft sigh. Diane wouldn't know the full truth for a while and that was the way Fiona wanted it to be.
